For more than a decade, the Bay Mills Indian Community has fought to get Line 5 removed from the Straits of Mackinac & shut down permanently. But Michigan permitting the tunnel project is “just another example of how our voices have been ignored,” says Whitney Gravelle, President of the Tribe.

In 2010, the Kalamazoo River was devastated by of one of the largest inland oil spills in U.S. history. The pipeline was operated by Enbridge, the very salesmen who just sold Gov. President of Bay Mills Indian Community, Whitney Gravelle, expresses her concerns about Line 5 in an article from The Northern Express. “When that line ruptures, it will destroy not just resources but our culture and our way of life. How can we continue if the waters are polluted?” Gravelle asks.

A Wisconsin judge has hit pause on some construction of the Line 5 reroute in the northern part of the state. To proceed with work, Enbridge needs additional permits under WI law. Delays in obtaining them could threaten the reroute’s required completion by mid-November 2027. #ShutDownLine5
