“Concerning the Texture in [Digital] Art” Digital texture is a strange illusion. When a piece of art cannot be physically touched, we lose the certainty of how it actually feels. Digital art is, in my view, a cold, smooth cube by default. It is up to the artist to make us “feel” the piece. Analog mediums bring a natural texture not only to the finished artwork, but to the creative process itself. The lights, sounds, and physical sensations of tapes and synthesizers create a warm, familiar, distinctly human connection to the art. Cold, smooth cubes are fucking boring and I’m tired of pretending they’re not.
