in order of preference: 1. revamp VAR to drastically reduce impact (time limits, limited replay numbers, limited scope of VAR use) 2. scrap that shit completely 3. stay as is (untenable)
Cheyne@cheyneeug.bsky.social · 3mo agoI'd honestly be fine if they scrapped it altogether. It's made refs worse, overly reliant or hesitant to make a call since they can correct mistakes via VAR. Feel like enough time passed to call VAR a negative impact, teams are still complaining about bad ref decisions just like pre-VAR
I have been advocating for a 30-45 second time limit or a two-replay system for years now. it CANNOT be clear and obvious if it takes someone 3 minutes and 10 different replay angles to make a decision.
Billy Carpenter@billycarpy.bsky.social · 3mo agoIf VAR exists, it should get two full-speed replays, and if it can't confirm a near-certain error, the call stands. They'll get some wrong. But it should be for massive fuck-ups and violent conduct, not to arbitrate the 50% of reffing that is subjective. Keep. the. game. moving.
