PI @ the PERL lab, assistant professor @ Haifa University, interested in how Humans smell, breathe, remember and recall their world. 👃🏻📈🧠
I am excited to share our new response letter, just published in Neuropsychopharmacology. We wrote this piece to engage with a recent, highly sophisticated paper by Cisler et al., adding another vital piece to the puzzle of how the hippocampus encodes autobiographical trauma memories in PTSD.
We are recruiting! My lab at the University of Haifa is looking for new team members to join our research on the links between sensory perception (focus on #smell and human #olfaction) and human memory. Please help me spread the word #newPI #academia #neurostuff
When it comes to sensory processing, cortex should not get all the credit... In olfaction, a key challenge is identifying odors regardless of concentration. Our new paper in @natneuro.nature.com shows how the olfactory bulb performs this crucial computation before signals even reach the cortex.
I am excited to share my first paper, showing that episodic memory formation is theta rhythmic, is now published in Nature Human Behavior! Check it out here: rdcu.be/e6pzS. Thanks to my PI, Katherine Duncan, and to my collaborators for their support on this journey! Stay tuned for iEEG follow up 🧠
Episodic memory encoding fluctuates at a theta rhythm of 3–10 Hz
Nature Human Behaviour - Biba et al. show that episodic memory encoding fluctuates at a theta rhythm of 3–10 Hz.

Incredible work by a super talented team! Was lucky to witness it from conceptualization to reality (even when pieces didn't always fall into place, that's real science FYI). Congratulations and kudos @baror-shira.bsky.social , @ayab.bsky.social and team!
Excited to share a new paper spearheaded by the wonderful @baror-shira.bsky.social: tinyurl.com/bd8xdcum @erc.europa.eu @nathumbehav.nature.com We test the link between serial dependence (as an index of continuity) and event boundaries (indexing segmentation). A few key findings in the thread:
#Throwback! Two years later, this finding still blows my mind. 🤯 We demonstrated that beliefs about nicotine strength drive dose-dependent signals in the brain, physiologically mimicking the drug itself, even when the actual dose is constant. Beliefs change biology 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s44...
Nicotine-related beliefs induce dose-dependent responses in the human brain - Nature Mental Health
Instructions about nicotine strength influence smokers’ perception of the nicotine content in electronic cigarettes and are associated with neural responses in the thalamocortical system.

Let’s talk about Sniff Logic (disclaimer: I work here) – We build tools for measuring oral & nasal airflow with research-grade accuracy What makes us different? • Research-grade precision, anywhere • Sync with EEG, fMRI, etc. • A fraction of the price of most systems 📢 #Respiration #Neuroscience
The craziest/loveliest part of departing from @ayab.bsky.social 's lab was this jaw dropping clip they made with KlingAI and a *single* photo of me. I guess this is what you get when you mess with masters of naturalistic stimuli 😱 Such a great gift and now the rest of the world can easily extort me
Yesterday was my last day with the @ayab.bsky.social memory lab at ELSC, @hebrewuniversity.bsky.social. After two and a half wonderful years, going away is bittersweet. I now look forward to starting a new path as a PI @ Haifa University and to forming new hippocampal-mediated memories. Thank you💛
It is with profound sadness that we share the devastating news that Eleanor Maguire passed away on January 4th. She was a phenomenally brilliant neuroscientist, with immense passion for her work and many remarkable accomplishments. We will miss her terribly. www.online-tribute.com/EleanorMaguire

Learning and memory are so fundamental to us, so enmeshed throughout cognition, that ‘solving’ memory, unpacking its neural mechanisms and being able to conceptualise it fully will, I believe, res…
