Couldn't have asked for a better day for Petey to sit on rocks and pose for pictures. Thanks for getting my butt outside, bud.

Always do the right thing. That's it? That's it. I got it. I'm gone.
Today was a good day. Petey is a happy boy. That is all.
Back to the vet today. Last month Petey was treated for "sarcoptes" aka MANGE (poor guy)! He is on NexGard which normally protects from it, but somehow he got it (other two dogs didn't). He was still a bit itchy, especially around his snoot, but it's just allergies (whew!)
I don't know what the #BirdOfTheDay is, but I'm posting this Great Blue Heron! I've hiked this area for over 20 years and have been teased by the herons, only catching a glimpse of them flying away. For whatever reason, this one posed beautifully yesterday, despite having Petey with me ❤️
I was walking in the woods, wondering who let their dog off leash/lost their dog. Then I took a better look 👀 ... It actually paced us for a bit, continuing to bark/yelp/howl until it was content that we had moved on.
I found this little fella in the middle of the field, far away from any water. Hoping I did the right thing by bringing him to the pond's edge. Pretty sure it's a snapping turtle.
I thought it was the Taylor Ham question that gave it away
I think the goldfinch has been hanging around the nuthatches a bit too much
Busy bee (with a chickadee serenade in the background)
Petey the Sweetie at the end of a late summer hike ❤️
In honor of #WorldSnakeDay a slow motion video of a baby cornsnake (he's really there, I swear!)

This is Petey. He's happy to wade into the plunge pool for a cool drink, but for now it's hard pass on a swim. Maybe one day...
The devastation of the Emerald Ash Borer framed by more of nature's beauty, accompanied by the soundtrack of a few songbirds
Stumbled upon Indian Pipe yesterday. I walk in the woods most days, and I've never noticed it. Shout out to my new buddy, Petey, who loves to stop and sniff everything. ❤️ identify.plantnet.org/k-world-flor...
What are the odds there'd be an osprey 45 miles inland? I didn't see it, but I'm going to believe it was there. #NJ #Birds #NJBirds #TenMinMerlin
Introduce yourself with ten artists you've seen live: Dave Matthews Band (x ???) Stevie Ray Vaughan Steeley Dan INXS The Cure Elvis Costello James Taylor Ozzy Osbourne Jimmy Buffett Blue Oyster Cult
While I was out for a hike with the doggo, I stopped to listen to a Wood Thrush (I love their song) and saw my first owl in the wild! Best I can tell, it's a Barred Owl. #NJBirds
Gorgeous but chilly 43F morning. I also saw a Ruby-throated Hummingbird! I wasn't expecting them, but the feeder is ready now. #TenMinMerlin #NJBirds #Birds
I'm starting this thread for all of my #TenMinMerlin s (in case I ever post anything else 😁).
Went from 29 birds six days ago to only 11 today. Maybe it's the 25 degree drop in temp? 30F and sunny today. #TenMinMerlin #NJBirds
Mixed it up and did an afternoon #TenMinMerlin on a beautiful 68F, sunny NJ day. (Not captured: a squirrel filibuster going on about 30 minutes)
A sunny and cold (28F) morning in NJ I'm happy to report that the new squirrel-proof feeders for suet and mealworms are getting the job done 👍 #TenMinMerlin #NJBirds
About 40F and cloudy in Morris county, NJ this morning. I've never had Merlin spot a purple finch before and I certainly didn't see it, but I'm hoping the finch found something it liked among my feeders, or in the natural environment by me 🤞 #TenMinMerlin #NJBirding #NJBirds
Happy first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox Today's #TenMinMerlin didn't pick up any bunnies
