Despite Trump's pressure on the Nobel Committee, he has once again failed to win the Nobel Peace Prize this year. I think he should be worrying about the prospect of impeachment rather than the Peace Prize.

Professor of Philosophy. I write about philosophy and logic – sometimes seriously, sometimes with a touch of humour.
W’s 300-character limit makes it hard to support arguments, explore different views, or have meaningful discussions. I’ve tried images with text and links to longer posts or videos on other websites, but neither is convenient. Does anyone know a better way to share longer thoughts on W?
S. Pinker recently admitted he was wrong about AI’s language abilities. He had argued that neural networks couldn't master language because they learn from statistical patterns, unlike children. Now he acknowledges that human language acquisition isn't the only path. #philosophy #WSocialPhilosophy
Descartes asks us to imagine an evil demon powerful enough to deceive us about the world, our bodies, even mathematics. If everything you experience could be an illusion, is there anything you could still know with absolute certainty? #philosophy #WSocialPhilosophy
Today, my philosophy students and I spent the entire class discussing just one sentence by Wittgenstein: “The world is all that is the case.” :) It sounds simple. It isn’t. There is a surprising amount to say about this one sentence. #philosophy
I watched an interview with Michael Sandel. I think he is right that AI’s greatest impact may be to change what it means to be human. We risk losing what technology cannot replace: human connection, community, presence, and authenticity. #philosophy #WSocialPhilosophy
I’m preparing a video about Ludwig Wittgenstein’s remarkable life. For example, he moved from aeronautical engineering to philosophy, volunteered for the front, gave away almost all his wealth, and tried teaching primary school. Strange that so few feature films have been made about him #philosophy
On Confucius’ birthday, traditionally celebrated on 28 September, a few words from the Analects: “Is it not a pleasure to learn and, when it is timely, to practice what you have learned?” “What you do not want others to do to you, do not do to others.” #philosophy #WSocialPhilosophy
Robert Nozick’s Experience Machine could give you any experience you want – love, success, adventure, happiness – and you could not tell it from reality. Would you choose to spend two years inside it? #philosophy #WSocialPhilosophy
On Heidegger’s birthday, I’d like to revisit two of his most famous lines: “Language is the house of Being” and “The nothing itself nothings.” Some scholars even claim to know what they mean. Optimists. #philosophy
Yesterday, my students and I compared the arguments in Plato’s Apology of Socrates and Book I of Cicero’s Tusculan Disputations. The students’ verdict: Cicero was more convincing. #philosophy #logic
Since 2009, Peter Thiel has repeatedly explained that his famous line – freedom and democracy are not compatible – was misunderstood. Yesterday, he said the Pope was "acting as a useful idiot" for the Chinese Communist Party. I wonder if he’ll spend the next 15 years explaining this one too.
Schopenhauer argued that egoism and malice are deeply rooted in human nature. Rousseau, by contrast, believed that humans are naturally good and become corrupted through society. Who was right? #philosophy #WSocialPhilosophy
Books from My Bookshelf Hans-Georg Gadamer, Truth and Method Understanding is never neutral – it is shaped by language, history, tradition, and the dialogue between our own horizon and what we seek to understand. #philosophy #books #WSocialPhilosophy
I’ve made a new video on analytic vs. continental philosophy – how they differ in their views of philosophy, reasoning, and method. I also trace the history of the divide, from the late 19th century to its peak in 1945–1968 and later rapprochement. #philosophy youtu.be/1qd_148tasQ

I think W Social offers something genuinely new and important for social media users. Over the past few days, I’ve been reflecting on the principles and values behind it. The attached image outlines how I understand the philosophy of W Social. #WSocialPhilosophy #philosophy
Marcus Aurelius argued that we should focus on changing our judgments and reactions rather than trying to control the world. Descartes, by contrast, believed that knowledge could help us become “masters and possessors of nature.” Who was right? #philosophy
Books from My Bookshelf Immanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason A foundational work examining the limits and conditions of human knowledge, asking what we can know through reason and experience – and where the boundaries of knowledge must be drawn. #philosophy #books
Why has Trump said so little about Russian attacks on U.S. companies in Ukraine? Coca-Cola, Mondelez, Cargill, Philip Morris, Flex and Bunge have been hit. The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine says 47% of its members reported damaged or destroyed facilities.
Naomi Klein says today’s technocratic elites “fail to see the beauty of the world and what makes life worth living.” In a recent interview, she argues that this leaves billionaires with little to offer their followers but sadism. An oversimplification, of course, but a thought worth reflecting on.
Locke’s locked room: someone willingly stays in a room, unaware that the door is locked. The choice is voluntary, yet leaving was never possible. If freedom requires the ability to do otherwise, was the person free at all? #philosophy
Laplace’s Demon knows the complete state of the universe and all laws of nature, so it can predict every action you will take. If your choices were predictable long before you were born, could you ever have acted otherwise? #philosophy
Today I thought about the events of 25 years ago. People said the world would never be the same after 9/11. For many people, it truly never was. But history is more complicated: even events that seem to divide time into ‘before’ and ‘after’ eventually become one layer among many in the past.
Books from My Bookshelf Plato, Republic A philosophical dialogue exploring justice, the ideal state, education, political order, and the nature of the human soul, while asking what it means to live a truly just and good life. #books
I’ve made a new video about the Eleatic School, exploring some of philosophy’s deepest questions: What does it mean to exist? Is change real? How is motion possible? I discuss Parmenides’ view of being and Zeno’s famous paradoxes of motion. #philosophy youtu.be/dvbSBwbcGGk

Philosophers have given very different answers to the question, “What makes a life worth living?” Some point to happiness, others to virtue, love, freedom, achievement, meaning, or service to others. What would your answer be? #philosophy
Philosophers have long disagreed about what preserves personal identity through change – our body, memories, consciousness, character, or something else. What do you think? What makes you the same person over time? #philosophy
For centuries, philosophers have disagreed about whether morality exists independently of us or whether it is something human beings construct through culture, reason, etc. What do you think? Is there such a thing as objective morality, or are moral values created by human beings? #philosophy
