SPOILERS: One of the rare events has the graphics of the environment become more primitive. I really like how old 3D PC games looked, so this was kind of my way to reference that. The music even changes into a midi version of itself! (Screenshots are from an old test build that auto loads it)

When I designed "You" the character, I made concept art by taking real photos and mashing them together to create the design. The concept art itself ended up making it into the game for close-ups where "You" is present! They originally had blush but I removed it to make them more ambiguous looking

The game actually took a long time to find a style I liked. There was a lot of experimentation and concept art made to find a proper style. Here's a few concepts and screenshots of coming up with the art direction.
