I'll remember my mom here, who was told for a decade her painful periods were "all in her head." She had severe fibroid tumors & when she had a hysterectomy it transformed her life. A decade, though, and probably even longer than that, lost to "it's all in the little lady's head."

A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"

Truly Gifted Kids:A Book About A Band Called Prefab Sprout by @nigetassell.bsky.social Nige sets out to uncloak the enigma in this deepest dive ever made into Paddy McAloon’s craft, motivations and methods Personal and poetic, a true labour of love about labours of love 13-08-26 tr.ee/-BLPqLQ27t

There was a call for essays for a local book describing my hometown's various neighborhoods. The call indicated the editors wanted gritty, real, etc. After a long delay, my essay was rejected with a note that it was too gritty, too real....and too gay. (It mentioned the word gay maybe twice?)

If you see this, please tell me the worst/most baffling bit of creative feedback you've ever recieved. Mine is still the time somebody told me my aliens had names that were too alien. Not that they were unpronounceable, just that they didn't sound enough like human names.

This is Vinnie. He just got a new splish splash pad and literally can't contain his excitement. Thinks this is going to be the best summer ever. 13/10 (FB: Claudia Carr)

I'm in the midst of writing my debut novel, an MM romance at that, and I know and expect that it will be read by all of, oh, maybe 22 people. I don't expect my debut will be Ready For Prime Time, as the saying goes. But hopefully I'll grow and get better, get sharper. All out of the spotlight.

Of all the many things wrong with publishing today, chasing debuts is among the worst, especially when it's paired with a failure to edit and the subsequent abandonment of marketing promises. It's so destructive to young writers.

This was an amazing book. Really, you could pick *any* #KJCharles book and it would be amazing. Every single one I've read thus far has been entertaining with a great mix of historical romance, witty dialogue, a vivid cast of characters and a finely woven plot.

This is Bodie. His presence indicates the beginning of Pride Month. May his whimsy and steadfastness bring joy and confidence to all. 14/10 the parade starts right behind him 🌈🐾 (IG: hellobodie)

a golden retriever puppy on a bright pink rope leash prances through some tall grass. he’s wearing a brightly patterned bandana around his neck and is carrying a miniature six-stripe pride flag in his mouth. his front right paw is raised mid-stride, like he’s ready to hop into a pride parade at any second.

Now is the time to make your thing. Stop motion with LEGO, webcomic, walking sim game, weird Halloween costume, backyard water feature, container garden. This is your sign. Make your thing. Stop waiting. Do it.

A minor blip in the universe but I'm sad, as a music fan in the US, to lose access to BBC6 Music, which has long been a favorite. Wish more US stations had the breadth of genres and an array of fascinating DJs. Long may 6 Music live.

love this Depeche Mode photo from their first Smash Hits feature where Vince looks 11, Andy serves Victoria Wood character realness and Dave resembles a cashier named Janine.
