@springernature.com sold @sciam.bsky.social to LabX Media after the staff voted to form a union with the goal of improving and preserving the publication. We call on LabX to recognize our union. Sign the letter in solidarity! wgaea.st/sciam-letter

Organized workplace with @wgaeast.bsky.social
Bluesky, we'd like to introduce ourselves. The staff of Static Media would like to announce that we have formed a union with @wgaeast.bsky.social. Much like Jalopnik has already unionized and been recognized, we would like to request a voluntary recognition for all the Static Media sites.

Corporations will spend billions on union-busting attorneys and union-avoidance specialists to silence workers, but at the same time say there’s no money for better working conditions. Workers deserve better. Unions are how we take back our power and win.
Counterpoint: worker protections take the thrill out of being a nameless, faceless cog in the capitalist machine.
What can a union contract deliver? Better wages, better benefits, retirement security, respect and a stronger voice on the job. Sound good to you? Join the hundreds of thousands of workers who organized last year and form a union in your workplace. aflcio.org/formaunion

Solidarity with the ProPublica Guild. Their members deserve a fair contract now!
Yesterday, our members chanted and marched through @propublica.org’s NYC office demanding a fair contract now. We delivered a stack of more than 4,000 petition signatures and 300 comments from our supporters to management.
Workers at @sciamunion.bsky.social deserve union recognition and a fair first contract, not a union-busting lawyer!
Happy May Day! It’s been a busy week for SciAm Union’s mighty mitochondria. In good news, @springernature.com formally responded to our demand for voluntary recognition. But disappointingly, instead of working with us directly they are dragging their feet and calling in the NLRB.
Today marks one year until our current contract expires. While we will miss the days of The Onion being systematically dismantled and stripped for parts by private equity, we are nonetheless excited to bargain with new management.
More to come, but we're thrilled to announce that we've reached a tentative agreement. We're proud to bring this to our unit for ratification. ✊
The Onion Union's contract expires at midnight tonight. We are committed to bargaining in good faith and securing a fair contract for our talented and hardworking members.
With three days left of bargaining, management refused to be physically present during in-person sessions. We can think of no greater indignity than having to look employees in the eye when they are nothing more than faceless numbers representing wasted cost on a spreadsheet.
Today, The Onion Union and its allies distributed flyers outside our Chicago, NYC, and LA offices. We regret wasting time in the physical world when we should be creating digital content to be clogged with ads and SEO terms designed to game search engines.
The writers of The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, Late Night With Seth Meyers, and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert stand with The Onion Union! Solidarity ✊

This morning, our sister union GMG (with whom we share our offices and beloved CEO) defaced their desks with filthy pro-union signs showing their support. We demand that G/O Media management take down these acts of solidarity as soon as possible!

Thank you so much to @adamconover.bsky.social, @joshgondelman.bsky.social, and @zhubinparang.bsky.social for joining us at the bargaining table this morning to present a pledge from former Onion contributors to support our fight for a fair contract.
Our CEO Jim Spanfeller rightly declines to speak to his disgusting employees, but there's one group of people he'll gladly engage with: his almighty bosses at private equity firm Great Hill Partners. Click to demand Onion Union workers receive fair pay:

The Onion applauds its owner, G/O Media, for its many savvy business decisions that have driven away all but our most loyal readers. We prefer an audience faithful enough to go through hell and back to access our reportage.
🚨🚨🚨 There are exactly 2 weeks until our contract expires 🚨🚨🚨
The Onion applauds its parent company, G/O Media, for its targeted termination of the many irksome editors who impede perpetual content churn with their insistence upon fact-checking and copyediting.
