For the stories are eternal. They will be found. And they will heal, creating tendencies, feeding dreams, helping people keep their hopes up until they get to the place and the people they were destined to belong to.

“My name’s Bell-mère,” she said with the same smile as the baby. “What’s yours, girls?” “Nojiko,” stated the blue-haired girl, with the same confidence that was written on her face. Robin wished she was so resilient when they started to outcast her. “Robin,” she said, because if there was anything she had never tried to hide, it was her name. Her mother gave it to her, the people she loved called her that. It was all that was left of the time she spent in Ohara. The marine woman looked at them with the same fierceness Robin was seeing on Nojiko’s features, yet the same smile the baby bestowed on such a cruel world. “Birds. The two of you. Those are beautiful names, girls. Cherish them.” The sentence echoed in Robin’s soul, breaking a few teeth of the maw that was gnawing at it. Nojiko was a yellow bunting, Robin learned as they set a small boat to sail. She was pretty sure she knew why she was following Bell-mère now, and it wasn’t because the woman was adamant she was quitting the marine and going home. She verbalized the thought, still too blunt to control herself: “You feel like my mother.”

He would have snatched the phone and blurted out everything if it wasn’t for the boat Franky is steering at the dock. “Come on guys, we need movement! You can talk as we go!” “Don’t say that, Franky, think about monotask people like the marimo.” “Who’re you calling marimo, suspiciously cis-het boy?!” “Oh no, you didn’t pick up on that one, you fucking…” “Sanji-duck, avoid swearing online for fuck’s sake! We wanna look serious!” “Ah, sorry Nami-chérie!” “This is kind of rich coming from you, young and fiery Nami dear… Ouch!” “No one’s gonna take us seriously anyway…” complains Usopp. “I fear this will be an issue, indeed. At least it will sound natural and honest.” The ruckus is everywhere. Luffy loves it. It fills his heart with warmth, and makes everything he sees more radiant. With his peers, there’s always something to see or do. The beauty of the world appears in shades of grey when they’re not around, and the rhythm they beat around him compels his need for action and movement. His heart has always beaten fast and strong, his mind blind to some things but very aware of others, and these people all trigger the sparkles of interest that make him feel alive and free. He can’t have that without them. Now, the beating of his world matches that of his heart, and Luffy’s senses, sharpened and numbed at the same time, can finally focus on the things that fulfill him for real.
