Good to be back from our important research trip exploring the balls of other libraries.
From the deserts of Sudan to the gardens of Japan. From Milan to Yucatan, or the wilds of Borneo to the vineyards of Bordeaux. Hit me with your library card. Hit me. Hit me.
Look who came wandering on to #BookyMcBookface in Quoyloo this morning. 🐈 At this point it feels like we're running a Mobile Library service for cats. 🐾
It's a grey, overcast day in #Orkney but we've just been sent a lovely sunny holiday photo of the bright white balls in Bexhill-on-sea! ❤️⚪⚪⚪
Good afternoon to everybody but ESPECIALLY to Cathy who came to visit recently all the way from Maine in the U.S. and brought us this beautiful handcrafted tote bag from L.L. Bean! Embroidered especially for #BookyMcBookface to carry on his travels! ❤️ #BoatAndTote #LoveLibraries

Someone just asked us which book ended with the best cliffhanger so we told them it was definitely #InternationalJokeDay
Today is #NationalCameraDay so here is a very old and unusual item from our Photographic Archive. It's a stereoscopic card featuring St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, and it was created by C. Hubbard in the 1860s, which makes it one of the earliest known photographs of #Orkney.
Happy #NationalBarcodeDay everyone. The barcode was first patented in the U.S.A in 1952 but it wasn't until the 26th June 1974 that a barcode was first scanned in a shop in Ohio (on a pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum). #OTD And now we all use them every single day. BEEP BEEP
'What's the first name of the guy who wrote Robinson Crusoe and how sure are you?' 'Daniel. Defo.'
Though if #Scotland win tonight we're keeping them up on the board for the rest of the tournament!
We've just updated our #FIFAWorldCup display with #SCOBRA, ahead of tonight's game! Every country is represented by a relevant book that you can borrow from Orkney Library, and each day we're updating our #WorldCup wall chart with the upcoming matches! ⚽️

It's Monday night and it's #midsummer so it's time for a special edition of 'How light is it in #Orkney at 11.30pm this week?' You are not going to believe this, but it's the #SummerSolstice, there's absolutely no wind, and it's STILL THIS LIGHT! 💡❤️
The most important news of today is that it is #midsummer and in #Orkney we will have 18 and a half hours of daylight today. Sunrise at 0358 and sunset 2229. 🌞
More than 2000 years ago the Roman statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero wrote in a letter to a friend, 'Si hortum in bibliotheca habes, deerit nihil' which means: 'If you have a garden in your library, everything will be complete.'
Look at our lovely raised bed this morning! ❤️ This is our Moorland bed and it's one of five raised beds, each one representing a different habitat found here in #Orkney. 🌼 Find out more at: orkneylibrary.org.uk/interactive-...
