While I have your attention, due to the portrait of Turing on them, I have been trying to nickname £50 notes 'an Alan' for a while now. Please help me to get this to catch on. 'They're £20 each,' you could say, 'or, special offer, I can do you three for an Alan.' Thanks in advance.

*Psst* You're doing the lock screen meme, just double check you're not showing personal email, home address, other identifiable information along the bottom. 🙏 Obs doesn't apply to all phones.

If, like me, you love 1990s Web sites, back when the internet wasn't enshittified by Big Tech yet, have a look at Wiby, a Web 1.0 search engine. Click on "Surprise me…" for random discoveries, often personal Web pages about obscure niche subjects, but sometimes you find a hidden gem… wiby.org

Wiby - Search Engine for the Classic Web

Wiby is a search engine for older style pages, lightweight and based on a subject of interest. Building a web more reminiscent of the early internet.

This Roman ring, wishing good life to Senicianus, was found in Silchester. It’s now on display in The Vyne. Its fame derives from the archaeologist Mortimer Wheeler consulting Tolkien on it in the ‘20s. Tolkien was inspired by the idea of a lost cursed ring & the rest is literary history. 🕰️C4thAD

Just remembered an old anecdote about Cary Grant - story goes he was in his agent's office & a telex came up on the tele-printer from a journalist asking "How old Cary Grant?". He replied back: "Old Cary Grant fine thank you". PS – North by Northwest, still one of the best films of all time IMHO.

one of my favorite things about pinball at SGDQ was watching folks' reactions to nudging and bumping the machine and introducing them to the mechanics of it. leave it to *speedrunners* of all people to think that nudging/tilting the machine is uncouth & cheaty 😅 most ppl eventually came around :)
