Without fanfare, trailer or heads up #Viki dropped first episodes of #RoyalBetrothal. 🌟Bit of a shaky start with scrappy story & bizarre chats inexplicably in the middle of the desert (making use of expensive location shoot/LED screen?) but it soon settles down to a gripping tale with great leads.

Here's the thing about #TaleofGenji. It's not so much that you need to park feminism & other modern POVs at the door, it's that you have to keep in mind it was written by a woman to entertain other (bored) women so her desired response is pearl-clutching, outraged gasps & frissons of horror.

Not that I've any right to question masters of calligraphy or a culture not my own but sometimes the stroke order of words is ... counter-intuitive. I mean, the arrangement on the left is followed by the arrangement on the right with that middle bit (person on treadmill mneumonic) last. 😑

Had to wear a mask today as smoke from Wicklow Mountain wildfires has come down from Glencree. Didn't wear one yesterday & my lungs hurt. They're damaged from smoking & chronic bronchitis now gone once I quit years ago & more recent bouts of Covid. The climate crisis has come to Ireland.

I'm seriously considering buying my own copy of Tyler's translation of #TheTaleofGenji. The library late notices are getting more & more hysterical. But how can anyone read a book of 1000+ pages - tiny print! - in the same time as a regular novel?! I'm 300 in & it's not even a third of the way.

Possibly drowned two giant spiders in my bath this week. But if they held their breaths like Shelley Winters in The Poseidon Adventure (age-related reference) they'd've been fine as it's a short pipe from my bathroom to the outdoors, not a sewer. (Extension built in Ireland's cowboy days.)
