Bibliophile, perpetual grad student. Fan of democracy, cats, and the Oxford comma. Episcopalian, but not great at it. Foxes over hedgehogs.

The #Tigers getting hot after trading away their two best starting pitchers would be the most hilarious outcome to the dumpster fire that is the AL Central. This is also my preferred outcome, but it's also hilarious.

Flying is safer and cheaper. I like not having smoking sections. Yeah, food is better. Microbreweries all over the place means that beer is better. We live in a golden age of used books, man. Forty years ago, used bookstores didn't put their stuff online.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

When I think of Homer, I think of the Homer statue at the University of Virginia—and the fact that for over 25 years, Ted Lendon has been making students (including me, once) learn how to march in a phalanx on the lawn. ⚔️

I guarantee that in six months we’ll find out the reason Tillis & Cornyn caved again is because they, their spouses, their children, & grandchildren were receiving death threats from Trump/MAGA supporters. Just like every time they’ve previously caved.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com · yesterday

Tillis: "Everybody has this view that they are as pure as the driven snow and it's the other side that has a problem. I think we both have a problem, folks. If you want to talk about weaponization, take a look at Biden, take a look at Obama, take a look at Crossfire Hurricane ... "

Really stunning that everyone was mad that he was neglecting his job to produce a taxpayer funded reality show, and now we find out that there was no reality show; he was just on vacation. I mean, this is egregious, but on the other hand, it's a pretty creative grift.

"Without the show being made public, major corporations really did spend millions sending Duffy and his family on some sweet vacations for no legitimate reason. Have the Duffys pulled off a Great American grift?"

It is funny that this person thinks “immigrants defended the union while native born whites sought to destroy it in the name of slavery” is an argument against immigrants being Americans. This is precisely the point, nothing about being born here makes you better bsky.app/profile/aphc...

Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right
