The melancholy of autumn is hitting already. Good thing I have this guy to cheer me up with his shenanigans. Hunting season has started in Northern Sweden. We have to choose carefully where to go for our long hikes so we aren't mistaken for moose. The resemblance is uncanny after all
Our life with Lumi, the Finnish Lapphund

Life as seen through the eyes of Lumi, a Finnish Lapphund in Northern Sweden (born May 5th, 2024)
I caught a fi(nni)sh lapphund you guys. Are they any good to eat or should I throw him back in?
"Mom, please don't go to work tomorrow 🥺"
So, when you can't sleep and you just spat out a lot of Roller Derby Sled Dogs names, of course you think about how Ian M. Banks Culture novels name their ships, and how those names would translate to dogs, right? I'm perfectly normal, right? Anyways, sled dog names:
I thought it was #Internationaldogday every day 🤷🏻♀️ here's Lumi doing something that would make the world a better place if we all did it for a day or hundred: lying down in the forest and eating blueberries
Look at this happy boy. Wanna know why he's happy? Because we spent 2,5 hrs wandering around my favourite local "wilderness", a place popular with runners and skiers on the edge of town. At 6 in the morning it was empty, not least where we chose to be, away from the main paths. More pics below! 1/4
Don't let him fool you. He's guilty of many crimes.
Lumi had a great time off-leash in the forest today. First he disappeared 10 seconds after I released him, then he jumped in a pond, and then he rolled around in something very stinky. Dry schampoo's no match for the stink and my back hurts too much to attempt to give him a bath 😩 but hey he had fun
Today was a good day, first we got barked at by two loose dogs in the woods at 6.30 in the morning, then aunt S came to visit AND she dropped a bit of lemon cake without noticing (Lumi noticed 🍽️), and THEN all this excitement had to go somewhere and it went into barking for 2 hours. Good stuff
Lumi and I went on a trip to the Lapland mountains! Wanna see some pics? Read the alt text for the details!
TIL that the Finnish word for "mule" is "muuli", basically an anagram for "Lumi", and never has a name felt more apt
We took a long walk to a new (for Lumi) place down by the river early this morning and it was so exciting that he got the zoomies while holding a stick in his mouth. What followed was a reenactment of Dracula, only vampires wouldn't have let so much good blood go to waste 🤦🏻♀️
This is normal Lumi. Normal Lumi likes to sleep in, an hour longer than mom. This morning's abnormal Lumi was ready for a walk at 04.50. Stomach problems yet again. He had pulled his sh1t together for a whole week only to relapse again. Glad I recently restocked his wet wipes 🙄
I've had to work from the office the last 1,5 weeks and the commute twice a day to walk Lumi has been killing me, so I tried bringing him with me last Friday. He was very excited about meeting everyone, less excited that people had to work instead of giving him scritches. Very lazy employee btw
I had to go to the office every day this week (I usually wfh) and Lumi made sure I knew he wasn't pleased by barking his head off upon my return. I wasn't pleased either. So now he gets all my attention. Mom has to mow the lawn but that's Tomorrow Mom's problem, possibly even Saturday Mom's problem
Hey Lumi, what say you? Should we have a lazy Sunday so we can both recover from your never ending tummy problems?
A belated Awooo for Priya ❤️❤️❤️ #UglyDogs
I'm not a part of this community but it's so beautiful to witness so many people coming together to honour a beautiful dog ❤️❤️
My timeline is filled with AWOOOs, and it's everything.
A rare walk in the woods with dad. Lumi did such a great job keeping an eye on us both. He also did an amazing job hiding the tennis ball I threw for him somewhere he promptly forgot all about. "Where is the ball?" I implored. Crickets. But he did find a tick. So on the whole we broke even I guess
Did you know Finnish lapphunds consist of 99% fur and 1% mayhem? That's why, when they wade into a lake, there is a lot of fur leakage and all that remains is mayhem. Ridiculously spindly mayhem, zooming around in the sand.
Windy, rainy weather+ having to wear a raincoat= Lumi's legs suddenly lose the ability to move. I think that if he would just start walking again we'd get home sooner, get him dry and out of the dreadful thing but I guess standing completely still, freezing and squinting against the wind, works too.
Weeding? Never mind that, mom. You have to stop and smell the flowers sometimes. Like me! (Yesterday when I got home after an exhausting day at work & lay down on the sofa to rest, he crawled into my arms & licked me all over my face. He's usually not big on affection. It was just what I needed ❤️❤️)
Brought my FujiFilm camera to San Juan Island in the Salish Sea last week. Hoping some nedwalkies pics are part of a relaxing Sunday for you 🧵
The local dog rescue had a stand at the flea market yesterday and I HAD to buy Lumi this scarf. It says "Nice" on the flip side. Maybe one day I'll have reason to flip it! 🤞 (The scarf looks like it's choking him because I didn't pull his fur through it properly. It's not actually that tiny)
You'll never guess why from the photos, but Lumi had to have an unscheduled bath after this walk. It was unpleasant for both of us.
