We wasted the opportunity to build public wealth from oil and gas. Let's not make the same mistake with renewables.

Why are we letting other countries get rich off of wind farms in Scotland, while we get nearly nothing?
“If we stick to business as usual and an economy of extraction then we will look back in 20 years filled with regrets”
Scotland’s wind industry is booming. China and Wall Street are cashing in
An investment vehicle managed by JP Morgan and state-backed firms from France, Norway and China own Scottish wind farms which have paid tens of millions in dividends this decade.

Scots are being short changed with too much wealth filling either the pockets of distant private shareholders or other countries’ treasuries. Let's take our power back! www.ourpower.scot/take-action

🚨 BP is selling its North Sea business after 60 years. That means 1,100 jobs directly at risk, plus thousands more in the supply chain. The warning is clear: fossil fuel decline is accelerating. We need a plan that puts workers first. 👇
Community-owned energy means more wealth in our communities. But, there are so many unnecessary barriers. We need the Scottish Government to step in and get rid of those barriers!
On Orkney, the council is creating a municipally owned wind farm that is set to bring in £3.3m annually to fund vital public services. We need to be doing this everywhere in Scotland.
Why should workers in Scotland be missing out on good jobs? Let's build them here! 🏴
These projects are owned by TagEnergy, a joint venture between a French Billionaire and private holding companies. Why are they investing in wind here? Because it's profitable. The question is why don't Scottish communities have a stake in these projects? www.thenational.scot/news/2641863...
Planning approval granted for two on-shore Scottish wind farm projects
TWO new wind farms have received planning permission, paving the path for an additional 75MW of renewable energy production

Do corporate wind farms benefit your community? Not really, but they could with community & municipal ownership. When they’re developed, there’s a certain agreed upon “community benefit” that the developer agrees to pay the community in a show of good will.
ScotWind should be seen as a defining failure of successive SNP administrations (and Green supporters) who insisted it would be formative to Scotland’s reindustrialisation. Reports of £6 billion less activity than expected is only the latest confirmation.

How is it that we have so much wind infrastructure in Scotland, but lack the capacity to produce them? We're missing out on BILLIONS of pounds and good jobs. https://bit.ly/4yLEAeI

Only £25.6 billion of the £88.6bn expected to be spent developing 16 of Scotland's offshore wind sites are earmarked for Scottish industry. The Scottish government needs an industrial strategy that puts our workers and communities first! https://bit.ly/4yLEAeI
We already know wind and other renewables are the future. The real work is to make sure that our communities are actually benefitting!
Hear hear! Time for more community ownership of energy ⚡⚡
🚨 PROFITS SOAR, BUT WHO BENEFITS? 🚨 Iberdrola / Scottish Power: 2026 Net Profit: €4.34BN (+22%) Q2 Net Profit: €1.70BN Overseas energy companies get huge returns, while our communities are left behind with only scraps. Enough is enough. Time for public and community ownership. ⚡️🏴
Scotland’s biggest onshore windfarm, Whitelee just outside of Glasgow, is about to get repowered, doubling electricity generation to 1GW. But, who’s going to benefit?
Electricity should be a service, not a business especially with renewables.

We all need energy and when we can literally pull it from the wind, we should be rethinking how the whole system works. Why are we letting big overseas corporations get rich when it could be benefitting Scotland locally? https://bit.ly/4b7pl5v
The PM has pledged to cut VAT on electricity starting in October. This will be a great relief across the UK. More importantly, it signals that electrification is the way forward! Now, we need to take the next step and make sure the renewables producing that electricity benefit our communities!
@bellacaledonia.bsky.social has got it exactly right. A more democratic energy system isn't a matter of technology, but it's about making sure communities and workers in Scotland are actually benefitting!

We have seen this movie before. 🎬 When the oil was found, we handed the profits to the billionaires while our communities got crumbs. Now, as the wind generate immense wealth, we are watching the exact same script play out. https://act.ourpower.scot/p/its-our-power
🔴 A new multi-billion pound wind project in the Moray Firth has been approved by ScotGov The Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm is a joint venture by EDP Renewables (Spain) and ENGIE (France). That's more overseas multinationals enriching themselves off of Scotland's wind, while we get nothing.
