🌿 Play belongs everywhere! 🌿 Children don't play because it's good for their development. They play because it's joyful. And this summer we've been reminded that adults need play too. So today, wherever you are, give yourself - and the children around you - permission to play. 🤩💚 #PlayDay2026

Two young people are running the woodland. They are both wearing t-shirts and we can see the sun shining onto the trees behind them. The one on the left is smiling and has dropped an object for the other young person to catch. The object is in mid-air and the young person on the right is reaching for it.

Today, thousands of young people in Scotland are opening their exam results. But exam results don't measure kindness, courage, resilience or curiosity. Long after this day has past, many young people will remember how the adults around them made them feel today.

A group of 4 young people are in the woods, facing away from the camera. They are pulling on a rope as a team - the other end of the rope is out of shot.

A group of 5 outdoor practitioners are in the woods. They are standing in 2 rows, facing each other and working together to tie knots in para-cord between two trees. Text overlays the photo that reads: Be The Change. Forest School Leader Training. Starts Sept 2026, Lanarkshire.

During the holidays, some young people carry far more than we see. As summer continues, let's remember: 💚 Compassion over assumptions. 💚 Connection over correction. 💚 Safety before learning. One supportive adult can change a young person's life.

A young person with black hair, wearing a white t-shirt and grey trousers, is sitting on the floor with their knees pulled up to their head, leaning against a grey wall. They is crossing their arms across their knees and resting their head in their arms, so we cannot see their face.

Children don't need more pressure. They need more time to play. More chances to explore. More opportunities to take risks, connect with nature and simply be children. As we celebrate 10 years, we'll keep making the case that #play and #outdoorlearning aren't extras - they're essential.

A close-up photo of the face of a young person in the woods, but his face is hidden by a mask he has made with a large leaf. He has cut out eye holes and tied it round his head using twine. He has short red hair and is wearing a grey t-shirt. It looks like it's a sunny day as we can see the sun shining onto him through the gaps in the trees.

For some young people, the hardest part of the holidays is losing their routine. Structure helps many children feel safe. Even small things can help: ☀️ Predictable plans ☀️ Regular check-ins ☀️ Reassurance ☀️ Calm support Small routines can make a big difference 💚

🌿 New programmes coming soon! 🌿 This autumn, we're launching several new funded wellbeing programmes across Lanarkshire, supporting carers & their families, young adults facing adversity and young people who find attending school hard. More details soon but contact us now for more info!

🌿 For 10 years, OutLET has been empowering change through nature. 🌿 From outdoor learning and family play, to training and wellbeing programmes, one belief has guided us: nature helps people learn, connect, heal and thrive. And we're only just getting started. 💚

An image of a group of 7 young people in the woods. They are standing in a line, facing away from the camera. It looks like they are pulling on a rope that is tied to a tree, beyond which an OutLET staff member, in an OutLET navy polo shirt, is standing. The sunlight is streaming through the gaps in the trees, just above where the young people are standing.

We've had lots of new followers recently - hello! 👋 We're OutLET, a charity & social enterprise empowering change through nature. Through training and programmes, we support young people, families and communities, creating opportunities for people to learn, connect & thrive outdoors. Welcome!

School holidays don’t need to be packed with expensive plans to be meaningful. Children find joy in surprisingly simple things: 🌿 Water play 🌿 Picnics 🌿 Puddles 🌿 Feeling relaxed with people they love 🌿 Staying up too late 🫣

Two sets of legs, belonging to children, jumping in a puddle. One child is wearing grey jeans and yellow wellies, the other is wearing blue jeans and rainbow-coloured stripey wellies. It is sunny, as we can see their boots reflected in the puddle.

The summer holidays can be wonderfully chaotic... If everyone's feeling overwhelmed, try stepping outside. A listening walk, water play, a picnic or simply feeling the grass under your feet can help children (and adults!) reset. Nature connection doesn't have to be complicated.

A close up of a child's barefeet againts the grass, we can see the feet are slightly dirty on the bottom, implying they have been running about outdoors with no socks or shoes on.

"Are you excited for summer?" For some young people, that's an easy question. For others, summer can feel lonely, overwhelming or uncertain. Not every child experiences the holidays in the same way. Feeling seen matters.

A child sits on the edge of a wooden walkway over some grass. There is sunlight on the ground around him. His head is lowered and although we can only see his face in side profile, it is clear he is not smiling or happy.

And just like that… the summer holidays are here. May your coffee stay warm, your snacks last longer than five minutes, and your children sleep past 6am at least once.

To everyone working in education across Scotland: you made it. Thank you for showing up for children and young people every day, often under immense and growing pressure. We hope the summer brings you a well-earned chance to recharge. And to those with a few weeks left... you're nearly there 💚

Over the last 10 years, we've learned that progress doesn't look the same for everyone. Sometimes it starts with a conversation. Sometimes it starts with simply turning up. When young people feel safe, trusted and connected, they thrive. Here's to more trust in the power of play and nature.

Two young people are sitting in a hammock in the woods, with their back to the camera, it looks as if they are chatting. The young person on the left has short brown hair and is wearing a grey hoodie with a yellow hood. The young person on the right has long brown hair in a ponytail and is wearing a pink jacket. There are two pairs of welly boots lying on the ground behind them, one navy blue and one yellow.

A child is standing in a huge puddle, water splashing around their legs. They are wearing jeans, which are wet to the knees, green wellies and a colourful stripy jumper. The photo has been taken from the waste down but we can see they are holding a green umbrella. There is sunlight on the grass behind them.

We've received funding to help adults have more fun 🤩 Seriously. This summer we'll be creating free opportunities for people to reconnect with nature, community, curiosity and play - because why should those things stop when you grow up? Huge thanks to Rowntree's & Groundwork for supporting us.

A selection of three images. In the top left, an adult is in the woods making a silly face at the camera, sticking out his tongue while wearing a crown made of red leaves. In the bottom left, an adult is on a tree swing in the woods and has turned his face to smile at the camera. On the right, an adult is in the woods making a giant liquid bubble by waving a bubble wand made from sticks and string. There is text overlaying the photos that says 'A Summer of Fun? Wild Time for Grown-Ups: BIG Summer Playout'

We want children spending more time outdoors and less time on screens. But a blanket #SocialMediaBan feels like a simplistic answer to a complex problem. Where is the accountability for big tech companies? And what are we creating for young people offline in its place? What do you think?

A young person is facing the camera but looking at her phone which is in the foreground of the photo. Text overlays the image that reads: 'Social Media Ban for Under 16s: What are your thoughts?'

Know nothing about outdoor learning? Perfect. We're looking for trustees who care about children and families, communities and making a difference - not outdoor experts. Help guide OutLET's future so our team can keep doing what they do best. Contact us for info: office@outlet.scot

Two children are standing under an upturned blue and grey hammock in the woods. The child on the left is taller, wearing a green jacket, blue waterproof trousers and blue boots. The child on the right is shorter, wearing pink waterproofs and pink boots. They are facing each other but we can see their heads, as they are under the hammock. There is text above the photo that reads: 'A bit in the dark when it comes to outdoor learning?' And text below the photo that reads: 'We don't care! You could be the right person for us. Become an OutLET Trustee and help make a difference.'

When did you last do something just for the fun of it? Not to be productive. Not to achieve a goal. Just because you enjoyed it. This summer, we're exploring what happens when adults reconnect with nature, curiosity and play. Watch this space... 👀
