It’s one week since I left my job and I’ve already had one mental breakdown from lack of sleep and an inability to #gamedev, so I’ve decided to give up the following: - alcohol - caffeine - prescription meds - social media - society - food - water - air I might still play #indiegames though.

Generative AI is an attempt by tech bros to own our voices, our experiences, our creativity, our hard work. They want to feed our creative efforts into a machine so that they can profit off of it. AI art is hollow and soulless and without human intention.

Within a month I’ve gone from ”I really getting somewhere with #Defold & Lua” to “I’m totally digging #Unity again & maybe C# isn’t all that bad” to “Maybe #Godot is the way forward after all as GDscript is awesome & I wish I had stuck with it.” #gamedev is hard for my aging #ADHD brain.

This makes me so sad, and so angry at the sort of gamers who continually air their grievances in the most unthinking way, no matter how justified their cause. Teeto is awesome, and such #indiegames do not deserve to be the target of this campaign.

I have a new idea for a low-interaction minimalist 3D space haulage game, sort of a cross between Homeworld, No Man’s Sky, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and a screensaver. I was wondering how to implemented this, and then find out that a few days ago it was announced EVE ONLINE code was being open-sourced.

What’s interesting to me is that the whole ‘friendslop’ phenomenon is quite possibly spurned on by grown-up former Roblox kids making and playing such fun games in proper engines beyond that horrible janky exploitative platform of end-stage capitalist shite.

The fact that more people are playing Roblox copies of Meccha Chameleon than the actual game is so emblematic of how Roblox exists primarily as a vector to rip actual creatives off instead of fostering originality. The argument of "but I can't afford the actual game" doesn't sway me.

I’d not heard of this before, & apparently it bombed, but I just watched it on Netflix & really loved it. Not the kid-friendly romp I was expecting, but a combination of gritty family drama, gangland action movie, & mysterious sci-fi thriller reminiscent of one of my fave films, Midnight Special.

My scaffold for #indiegames #MadeWithDefold is coming along nicely, lots of progress made in the past 4 days. I will be sharing this with the #Defold #gamedev community, but I really recommend beginners try doing it themselves before even starting to make a game - it's a great learning experience.
