🔴⚫️ Jerry Ropson: a place of safety opens tonight, Friday 25 September @ 7:00 pm! In this installation, Jerry Ropson creates an apocalyptic story told by uncanny, cultish objects who take unsettling, yet oddly playful forms. On view until 6 December 2026 Curated by Emily Falvey

A close-up of a tilted black art panel set within a dark wooden frame or support. The panel contains cut outs resembling two eyes, a narrow curved white nose, and a larger mouth. Six small red, rounded beads are arranged in two lines below the eyes.A close-up photograph shows a woven black cord net hanging in the foreground, with many irregular openings and visible knots. Behind it, a softly blurred white surface holds several small objects. Many small, smooth, irregularly shaped objects are arranged across a light-coloured fabric surface. The objects are predominantly black, white, grey, and brown, with varied forms including rounded stones, elongated bars, pointed pieces, and flat rectangular shapes. Two of the objects are surrounded by twisted gold wire.
A dense collection of black string and netting fills the image against a pale background. A vertical wooden pole stands slightly right of centre, secured to the cords with black ties.

🤩 Look at all these wonderfully playful buttons! Thanks to everyone who attended MAKER MAKER: Button Magic with John Haney last night, and extra thanks to John for sharing his unique approach to button-making and technical know-how with us all! Dozens and dozens of incredible buttons were created!

🌈 Is there anything more magical than standing under a rainbow? We're getting a hefty deluge of rain in Sackville today, but inside the Gallery, Leah Garnett’s The sunlight that curved to meet me (2018) glows with hope for future rainbows. See it for yourself as part of Art = Work, on view now.

Three people stand below an art installation of colourful yarn arranged in arcs across two walls. The yarn is a spectrum of colours including red, yellow, green, blue, and purple, suspended forming smooth curves. The left segment of the installation has shorter loops with the ends hanging vertically and touching the ground, where small, colourful balls can be seen at the base.

⚠️ The Owens will be closed from Monday 29 September through Sunday 19 October as we install the new exhibition Art = Work in all the main floor gallery spaces. We will resume our normal opening hours on Monday, 20 October and look forward to sharing the new Exhibition Art=Work with you soon after!

Red text on a sign reads "Gallery closed for installation". In the background, out of focus, is a gallery with red walls and many paintings in gold frames. A person walks holding one painting towards a cart.
