When you take an evidence-based approach to AI-assisted and agentic software development, a picture emerges. It doesn't serve the narrative the bubble's been built on. But for the tiny % who care what's probably real and what actually works... codemanship.wordpress.com/2026/08/12/a...

AI Software Development – What Does The Data Say?

I’m currently pulling together a bunch of sources – that are mostly recent – on the topic of LLMs and their use in software development. Some are peer-reviewed studies. Some are i…

Updated all my Steam graphics today. The first time I made them all manually and hated every bit of it. I have now learned to artboards in Affinity and exporting them as slices, which made the process much easier! Recommended for other indies who are doing Steam graphics solo. #gamedev #steam

It's honestly so crazy to me that we're facing a technological revolution that could displace millions of jobs in the middle of a housing affordability crisis and every day we talk about whether a trans woman is playing sports or if someone has a non-Anglo name.

Just learned how to use decal projectors and made a variation of the standard decal shader that only projects normal maps. Using it to create tire indentations in the sand behind the main boss in level 1. If you like what you see, wishlist Flux Commander at s.team/a/3909790 #gamedev

Playing around in Blender today, I need a medium size/difficulty enemy for the mid-section of my first level, this is going to be a mean machine in a little while...#gamedev

Showing a little #GameDev flythrough behind the scenes - I've been working on more content for what will be the first level of Flux Commander. The ugly truth - it's all splines and spawners and just enough stuff to look good right below the camera. Smoke and mirrors, eh? Wishlist at s.team/a/3909790

Working on a refresh of all the Steam graphics. Gave up on using Krita, the text tools are just...not pleasant to work with. Giving Affinity a try, it's free which suits my budget! Like it a lot so far, have to get used to things. Definitely makes it easier to work on text and layout! #gamedev

It's really hard to read the docs and figure out how Unity UI Toolkit and the Input System is meant to be used. All the docs spend A LOT of time talking about what you need to do if you have a mix of UITK and UGUI. It really is a lot simpler in the latest versions, but the docs need to be updated.

It is a little weird doing software development for a living these days. On the one hand I know the complexity of keeping software running, safe, and useful in a big organization full of politics, and I navigate that with my team every day. On the other hand... (1/n)

The thing about actually making your video game real is that your projected imagination of what it will be is gradually substituted with concrete reality, and that reality is mostly going to be pretty bad until the game is almost finished. This is pretty heavy psychologically.
