Final photo of my #Warhammer40K #Ultramarine Assault Terminators for now. These three models used the same paints, different undercoat, same technique—but the Assault Terminator highlights are somehow more vibrant. Main colours are @thearmypainter.bsky.social Crystal Blue and Ionic Blue.

Starting with a light layer of purple undercoat before I start my blue. If I was painting Dark Kraken #SpaceMarines, I’d basically be done now. I could do a #BattleReady army quickly with rattle can zenithal and some metallics, if that was the aim.
These #Warhammer40K #Ultramarine Terminators form the backbone of the unit that holds the central objective. I have spent the better part of a week painting them. My hope is they stay on the board longer, so they can have a bit extra time on the painting desk.
Day 2 of testing, this time #ColourForge Rogue Pink. Brighter and different tone than Magecast Magenta. Punchy and great coverage, but it is not really the right shadow colour for my #Ultramarines. Just finished building a full unit of Assault Terminators, just in time to test.
I was away in studio all last week shooting #BattleTech, but I got a notice the #ColourForge sprays had arrived. The match is close but darker to Army Painter Alien Purple. The finish is smooth rather than textured. I am trying to quickly finish #SpaceMarine models to get 2000 points done.
Continuing from yesterday’s #Warhammer40K Terminator Chaplain, this is painting done, basing to go. I did have to re-apply the volumetric highlights a couple times and I still think they are too large. A brighter coloured base should make the model look darker.
Black is my least favourite armour colour. Difficult for volumetric highlights and easy to screw up. This #Warhammer40K Chaplain has been sitting on my desk for too long, need to finish or screw it up, then move on…
Quick photos of the second half of a #Warhammer40K #Ultramarines Sternguard unit. These have been sitting half finished on my desk for months. Now that I see them not under my painting lamp, I should’ve gone higher white with the helmets.
Some catchup from #GameConCanada! Took my children to their first away con and all they wanted to do was hang out at the #PlayOnTabletop booth and sell merch (and play the occasional video game).
Closer to Battle Ready… I dropped and shattered a resin mini yesterday, so I ended up putting random extra details onto the #Warhammer40K SOT (edge highlights for the trim and Tamiya Light Gray Panel Line for weapons). Now to decide on basing, purple rocks or grey sludge and green crystals?
…for the wages of Chaos is TRIM…! I could see doing this scheme on regular #Warhammer40K Terminators where I don’t have to paint trim, but I do want a chance to play #ThousandSons this coming edition. Eventually.
They don’t look like they’re collected from the same dustbin… Changed up the execution of the left #Warhammer40K Scarab Occult Terminator for more negative space, kept the head and weapons black as well as the tabard. Maybe be pink eyes?
Concept for #Warhammer40K #ThousandSons. Mystical star field works, but errors in execution: Too much white ink splatter, too much colour (not enough negative space), and the eyes need more glow. Also, not sure what colour to paint the tabard. Scheme is easily replicated though!
Second half of a #Warhammer40K #Ultramarines Sternguard unit. Push-fit models definitely make subassembly easier by not pushing pegs all the way in. Also, @thearmypainter.bsky.social Stabilizer for Fanatic paints is a thing. Even with “watery” consistency, coverage was great.
I plan on painting a new #Warhammer40K Alpha Legion non-Chaos Marines army. First, figuring out a paint scheme. I prefer the colour in the turquoise rather than teal range, but I will probably mix the two. Testing continues until I figure out which units to use as proxy.
Taste the rainbow. An assortment of #BattleTech Mechs for an upcoming shoot. A bit more colourful than I usually paint because they need to be on camera.
Newest #Ultramarines join their brothers. I was rearranging furniture in my office this week and the army is still sitting on the table. This is all the (mostly) Battle Ready units, with more to join with the next edition box.
Finished a random assortment of #Warhammer40K Intercessors, just in time for the new edition and 20 more models (we are buying 2 boxes). I prefer un-textured bases so I can just glue material on instead of painting them.
Ran into a big Speedpaint problem through the airbrush and had to finish using paint and ink instead. Not exactly the colour I was aiming for and the metallic undercoat is gone. Not an auspicious start to my new #Warhammer40K #AlphaLegion.
Hammerhead for Thunderbutt. Another #BattleTech Mech for the upcoming show. It was competent but boring before, not sure the lightning really does the trick…
#BattleReady but missing a model (missing head from yesterday). Been having problems with air particulates all over the models, might be time to change the furnace filter. I’ll need to find a #Warhammer40K Sergeant helmet to replace the one I dropped.
I needed to paint tonight… …I didn’t need to scrap off paint, drop the #Warhammer40K #SpaceMarine helmet, and lose it completely. Can you guess which one it was? Also tried to be fancy with contrast and the armour looks turquoise now instead of the standard blue of the rest of the army. Sigh…
For my son who wanted to be a #palaeontologist since he was 2 years old—yes he could pronounce and explain the word back then. Thank you Dr B. and Dr O. of @palaeogames.bsky.social! (Shipped practically overnight and overseas.)
I was discussing whether 10 #Warhammer40K #SpaceMarine Infiltrators are needed or if 5 models are sufficient. Save myself some building and painting faces… Some additional metals and details to be added, but basing them means they are #BattleReady now, just in case.
Play like a 6 year-old. Michael of #PlayOnTabletop has challenged my son to a game of #Wargammer40K Colosseum at Game Con Canada. Time to learn the game and get reps in. He has the “roll high all the time” part down pat…
I despise the wide angle macro lens on phones, especially newer iPhones. My 2007 point-and-click can do better. Regardless, practicing faces because they aren’t going away. #Warhammer40K #SpaceMarines models have too many un-helmeted heads.
Kitbashed #SpaceMarine Lieutenant with Combi-weapon. I was saying to a friend that I don’t have any #Ultramarines lieutenants for my army yet and I had this Reiver someone gave me—just needed some additional weaponry.
