Almost 20 years ago now I digitally painted a picture of my flatmate. Although I was not new to digital painting, it was the longest I had focused in and worked on a single image at the time. She passed a couple of years ago, and I'm glad I have this memory, even though the high res version is lost

Playing BG3 for the 100th time and googling bits means my FB fills up with posts about it, and the amount of people who post to groups the things they find, with their Tav modded to wear a string bikini, saddens me. You do you I spose, but sigh.

More Uni thoughts. At 40 credit points a semester, you have a very limited amount of hours you can commit to each subject... and none of them act like it. I feel like im constantly under the gun, I am rushing to get the minimum needed for each subject done in those hours.

I draw lady space marines and the vitriol posted at me continues to this day. Sometimes from the same people over years. :p

Nothing quite wears me out like spending all day working on something for uni, looking at it and knowing it's pretty crap... but not having time to do anything about it because its 1 subject out of 4 and you have burned its share of hours.

Been a bit absent with the posting. Deep in the uni mines atm, with my spare time being spent with my partner, in video games or with my partner in video games. Hobby posting will resume when I can find some additional free time.

Watching Illustrator tutorial vids, and the tutor just pronounced PNG as Ping... and that's a first for me :P

Being back at uni is deeply weird. I walk into one class and feel like they could give me an exam right there and I'd be good, walk into another and feel overwhelmed by the volume of stuff I need to get done. It's a fkn emotional roller-coaster for an anxious person such as myself.

Bit the bullet and changed my adobe plan to the full CC (student price) I need a lot of the stuff for Uni, but it gives me a sad as I was only paying 1/2 price for my previous photography plan and I will have lost that if I convert back at the end of my studies. :(

Starting on a Dark Elf Hydra, not a super old model (I think it was 2012 or 13?) but no longer for sale given that the sorceress on foot is the only DE model still up in Cities of Sigmar. Glad I nabbed one when I did.

Only problem with studying art at a uni level is they insist that A1 paper is the size needed to learn on. Which is both weird, and a pain in the ass to transport.

Back to uni this week and feeling the intimidation I always feel when I see all the course load and assessment laid out. It's never that bad while actually doing it, but that initial impact always gives me The Fear (tm)

Back to uni next week with a small promise to myself to not burn out through over study. I did very well my first term back, but doing that well is unnecessary to gain my qualification and involved way too much "overtime". Work life balance etc.

I was told a character can't be lit from the front as there is a source of light behind them. 🧠 On another I was accused of tracing... but not drawing over something "look tracing", "he tries to make something look as close to the reference model as possible" 🥴 Both were FemSM art so very bad faith.

I'm don't watch Critical Role (outside of a sample to see if it was for me). But I find it deeply funny how many DnD nerds fly into a rage over it. "Its not a game, its a scripted performance!" Even if that was true, who cares? Its a show. People watch it to be entertained & presumably are.

Good representation in a game setting like 40k is one of those things fraught with missteps and unexamined blind spots, and how different peoples and cultures show up in Space Marines is no exception.
