I wasn't watching tv when I saw the fireball from the second plane exploding towards me on 9/11, and in that moment the first thought that came to me was that we would be going to war in the Middle East, led by a President wholly compromised by the oil business, exactly the worst guy available.

There is a really dumb idea floating around in our discourse that many treat as a legitimate one, even a smart one. It is that “we” need to be the first to develop AI to insure that it is developed safely. Apply the same argument to the machine gun and you immediately see how stupid it is. Fantasy.

Newark, New Jersey has to be one of the ugliest cities in America. If there is an uglier city I don’t know what it is. There’s nowhere in the city that is not ugly. It is a disaster of city planning that punishes its residents by banishing everything remotely resembling beauty.

I have shoulder pain which I self-diagnosed as related to how I sleep (on my side, fetal position) which in turn is related to a state of hyper-vigilance I have maintained pretty much continuously since 9/11. One solution is hugging a pillow so you don't compress your traps. I tried it. It works.

I'm so glad he's a smart cat because all i had to do was point to the back door and he carried the rat straight back out into the yard. He's out there playing with it now. It's a baby rat, not a mouse. He's found three of them this weekend and killed at least one of them (the biggest one). 🐈‍⬛
