When we mention 'today's riff-based culture', we mean the art of rhetoric, essentially. And there's some abysmal practitioners around. A lot of cont. fiction's akin to being hit around the head by a bat with 'MY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS TOPIC' inscribed on it. Inartful, clunky, hopeless.
