Russia is a vanguard to the new world. If it is victorious in Ukraine, the last remnants of the ethics inherited after WW2 would be lost. We may well loose our morals nonetheless, but a triumphant Russia would hasten our demise. There is no more crucial current expenditure than help to Ukraine.

White western Christian straight men are not victims of human rights. Those who blame humanity’s progress towards a just society as a pretext for retrograde ideas have only themselves to blame for their marginalization. Failure to adapt to a progressing world is not unfair to the procrastinators.

What makes nazis so terrifying is not a special, twisted, monstrous psyche. It’s that they have no such special mind. They are scary because they are normal people; because anyone of us can becomes one. We all have a dormant nazi within us. Failure to acknowledge this makes us vulnerable to be one.

With the IOC having reinstated Russia, every democratic nation in the world should withdraw from the next Olympic games in protest.

With the mess the SU political system has become, I feel the need the restate: people have the politicians they deserve; elections have consequences: all that is necessary for evil to prevail is for gods people to do nothing.

If the PM of Canada ever sued the CRA (Canada’s IRS), forced it into a settlement giving him and his cronies a fortune in taxpayer money and gave himself immunity from audits, he would out of office within the hour, brought to justice and imprisoned for corruption.

If the USA was officially an authoritarian State, how would it be any different than it is today?

Let’s have Turkey give the S-400 systems to Ukraine. This will clear the way for Turkey to have F-35s and create jobs in the US while helping Ukraine protect itself from Russian missiles. If it can be done securely, everyone wins.

In democracy we elect the confident, boastful amateur, rather than the careful and reclusive expert. The skills that favour election are the opposite of those of good governance. And so, we are condemned to be ruled by the eloquent ignorant with a catchy slogan. But we have nothing better to offer.

The war in Iran is another clear demonstration that current military doctrine is mostly obsolete. Traditional military powers are rebuffed by smaller powers with streams of drones. If a smaller nation with drones can defeat Russia and the US, it may be time to revise military doctrines.

Rights do not precede society, they emerge from it. One cannot break the social contract and recover natural rights, as those rights come from the contact. Pre-societal humans were unburdened by rules, but had no rights.

All western governments should disassociate with US-based search engines and adopt Qwant as their default for all public institutions. Search engines that do not collect personal information and are not based in the US should be favoured to ensure individual privacy and national security.

The projected peace agreement between the USA and Iran is a whole lot of nothing. All of the cost, the inflation and the lives to change absolutely nothing!

What has America gained by dissolving its network of democratic allies? Such important geopolitical moves are normally made in favour of a more valuable option. How does giving up the role of leader of the free world help America?

Why would a president who is two years away from the end of his term and who repeatedly hinted at staying on after his term, build a massive structure with drone ports, billet proof glass and a concrete bunker six levels deep next to his official residence? Is he getting ready for something?

Has social media been a good deal for humanity? It came with such promise of connection and progress, mostly not realized, but also with isolation, polarization and the undermining of science, democracy and even society. Was giving everyone on bullhorn to the world a good idea?

I’ve travelled to some 52 countries, but can’t seem to make up mind for the next trip. Any recommendations?

After WW2, many dreamed of a world where the power of the mighty is checked by virtues, nations create order, human right are universal and peace is the norm. This was in contrast to the ideas that plunged the world in the maelstrom of war. Those ideas are back and we must once more learn to dream.

In a world that is loosing a clear sense of itself, someone needs to step up and be the adult in the room. I’m pleased that Canada has chosen to be just that at a time we most dearly need it.

One who cannot understand percentages should not lead the strongest country in the world.

If 🍊 believes that blockading ports is a legitimate measure to pressure rogue states, then I suggest he start with Russia; which is a much greater threat to world peace than Iran right now.

🍊 bombed Irak, Koweït, Venezuela, Iran, Nigeria, Somalia, Afghanistan and Syria so far. Can we please give him another fake peace prize before he bombs us all?

Ending extreme poverty in the world would cost $318B a year or 0.3% of GDP. Annual worldwide military spending in 2024 was $1.7T; five times as much. It has grown since. That there are still people living in extreme poverty now is a policy choice.

Will someone please tell 🍊 that the « NA » in NATO stands for « North Atlantic » and that the middle-East is not in the North Atlantic?

Residential urban planning has become a tool to protect the rich from having to live next door to the poor; protecting them from the awful sight of the effects of concentration of wealth. It’s easy to be indifferent to the plight of the poor if you never have to see them from your luxury home.

There seems to be only one thing on which the military leadership of Russia and Ukraine agree; both believe that the lives of Russian soldiers are worthless.

Knowledge is one of those rare things in life one can give and still have. So, there’s no reason to share it parsimoniously, unless the aim is manipulation and control. After all, the more people know, the more they are empowered as independent thinkers. Such people are a threat to despots.

There are not many countries that are both important exporters of fossil fuels and politically stable. The conflict in Iran makes clear the risk to the world of dependence on those countries. Hydro, solar, wind, nuclear do not carry those risks. Time to change our energy sources for good.

Discreetly, a new trading block is rising. EU + Canada + Mercosur + Asia Pacific + India. Conspicuously absent are the US, Russia and China. This may be how the new world order will look.
