Today’s #Sealeychallenge : In the Eye of the Elephant by Moira Magneson, poet laureate of El Dorado County. Moira and I have been members of the Red Fox Underground Collective for a million years. Her work always surprises me—like this poem written in response to an earlier poem in the book. 🐘

“I might as well tear my face open.” Today for the #sealeychallenge, I read Songs for Ghosts by my library poet-sister, Julie Valin. 💕 I’ve never seen Walking Dead, and I love this poem.
“Nothing flies well in this wet night heat: not moths, not fat gold June bugs, not / bullets, not owls, not souls.” I miss Jennifer Martelli’s presence in the poetry world / the world. This is the first book I’ve read for the #sealeychallenge. And now I want to write all the poems.
Some good news: WA Dept of Fish & Wildlife reports Chinook salmon in the upper North Fork Toutle River for the 1st time since Mt. St. Helens erupted in 1980. wdfw.wa.gov/newsroom/new...
Every morning, Mr. Bingley trots up to the bed and says, “Get in loser. It’s time to sleep in the living room.”
I felt like Snow White in my back yard today. If Snow White lived in California where we don’t green up in summer.
Beet bruschetta. I made it up. It’s delish. Beets for the win!
Show me your Saturday salad. (I also made a coconut cream pie.)
Wearing my librarian hat: Just finished! This MG book has YA appeal. It’s easy to forget the mc is 12. The plot is complicated (in a good way). Sci-fi, myth, storytelling, family, resistance, peril, world building. 🦋
Petra’s family is fleeing Earth ahead of a destructive comet. But their plans go awry when the Collective takes over their ship. The group wants to force peace and harmony by erasing history and memory. Inspired by her abuelita, Petra clings to stories as a way to fight and keep hope alive #booksky
I finished Whistler, and I loved it. It made me reflect on my many step parents. Also, tho, I wonder if AP was getting some digs in at Sarah Ban Breathnach (of Simple Abundance) with Mr. Positivity. Have you read it?
4th of July ride. 26 miles, crepes at Crepeville in Sac, a jump in the cold river, and Mr. Bingley was very happy to see us when we returned. We love your potential, America 🇺🇸
I have a new poem, “The Night I Missed the Dog,” in Cloudbank. Here’s a bit. Order here: cloudbankbooks.com

Hey writer team, a friendly reminder from me (wearing my editor's fedora): I know you're not using AI to write your submissions. Also, don't use it to write your cover letters, bio, or emails, or any other thing. I'm sure you're not doing this, but tell all your friends. Here's a blossom.
I keep hearing stories of people fleeing the hellhole that is California, and, I mean, ok? My motto: California—everywhere else is nice to visit. Exhibit A: Photos from this week’s CA staycation.
Did I mention? I’m in here.

Whenever there’s a popular book on hold for me, I read the author’s previous work (if I haven’t). A little Midnight Library, a little—and I mean this in the best way—Because of Winn Dixie,This Time Tomorrow is a poignant read without being sentimental. Loved the discussions of time travel fic, too!
Who told you I couldn’t grow a thing?! I grew this in my pantry when I wasn’t even looking.
So the 4th piece out this last ten days is a poem 😳! I wrote about snail shells and cleopatra and men, but mostly I wrote about benga daughter then being a mum. Thanks West Trestle Review for publishing it!
In a wonderful synchronicity @pleomorphic2.bsky.social also has a gorgeous poem in this issue of WTR about mothers, mothering and past lives www.westtrestlereview.com/spring_2026_...

Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt-marvellous error! -that I had a beehive here inside my heart. And the golden bees were making white combs and sweet honey from my old failures. - Antonio Machado #poem #writingcommunity #flyday #bees #poetry
Today is the anniversary of my dad’s death in a car crash 19 years ago. I always know how many years it’s been because my son was two months old.
Today was another day when I thought to myself: "I really really love NYC." Sitting in public library with 85 people who came out on the Saturday (when they could be doing anything else) to discuss the life of Martin Sostre. It was a diverse group of people. Folks came out to be and learn together.
Mr. Bingley got a very close shave, and we’ve had to put him in a sweater to stop the shivers. Also, because he appeared to be nakey.
Kiley Reid is an expert at the long, slow cringe.
