Somewhat ticked-off Canadian. Straight but not narrow. Fascinated by astronomy, music, and our doggos. Unhealthily obsessed with the Chicago Cubs. PWHL fan. He/him.

The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils; The motions of his spirit are dull as night, And his affections dark as Erebus Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music.

Friends/acquaintances/strangers: I’m a soon-to-be 61-y/o retired journalist/speechwriter/media relations guy about to go back into school as an undergrad. I’m also a big LLM/AI skeptic. It’s been suggested I blog my experience as an old-timey student who doesn’t use AI. Would anyone read that?

I hardly know any researchers other than myself in my field who aren’t using LLMs extensively in their work. In my field, they’re being used mostly for coding assistance, computations (Claude is getting quite good at this), reference searches, and conceptual “discussions.” Some writing help too.
