My new physiotherapist asked me what my physicial goals were. I told her I just want a social media influencer to stop me to ask how I “stay jacked.” She laughed and asked what my goals really were. I told her I just want to look good in clothes. She wrote it down as I hid my tears.

My favourite horror director, Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure; Pulse), made a samurai movie!!! Based on an acclaimed novel, it’s a murder mystery set in a besieged castle and this may be the most excited I’ve been for a theatrical release in years. I just hope it plays somewhere near me. Link below.

When I get nervous during a film or TV pitch I’ll remember my manager’s advice to just treat it as if I was still doing stand-up comedy. So that’s why I asked the two executives in the zoom what they were drinking and if they were together.
Got my MRI results. I thought my shoulder was arthritic the past 18 months. I have a SLAP tear of the labrum *and* a subscapularis tear. Doctor said “it tore right off the bone.” Orthopedic surgery is next. What a relief! I was afraid I was becoming an old man. Turns out I’m just too athletic!

I love that Widow’s Bay is both the funniest horror series I’ve ever seen and the scariest comedy too.
Adapting my story optioned by a prod co a year ago. Rehearsing the pitch today before pitching it to a big prod co. If that goes well we pitch to their studio. If they love it I get paid to write a pilot. And if that goes spectacularly a series is green lit. This is called living the dream baby.
I love Hiro Murai’s ability to balance horror and comedy in Widow’s Bay. Been wanting more of that unsettling, hilarious creepiness ever since he directed the Teddy Perkins episode of Atlanta.
Widow’s Bay is wild and I learned 2 things about the series that totally makes sense if you’ve been watching it: 1) it was originally a Parks and Rec spec; and 2) the creator is the one in that viral Babadook meme.

Gold Derby: This script was originally a writing sample for you to get work in TV, right?
Katie Dippold: It was specifically for Parks and Recreation. The script was very different back then, but I think it gave [co-creator] Mike Schur an idea of my sense of humor, so I got it off of that. I worked there for Seasons 2, 3, and 4, but I kept revisiting this over the years. For some reason, I just kept getting pulled back to it. I think that initial version leaned too hard-comedy. I wanted to take the stakes and the tension and the horror seriously, and so l had to rip it apart and just keep brainstorming. It was kind of scary to rip it apart because for a while, nothing's working. My younger brother is one of the most talented, focused people I know. When he puts his mind to something he gets it done. When we were kids we loved drawing. But it was clear he was much more talented than me so I turned my attention to writing. I’d write little stories and he’d illustrate them. /1
It’s not my birthday but I love that my friends still find reasons to reach out to me out of the blue.
Not to brag but I just found out one of my TV pitches just got upgraded from “Looks great!” to “Exciting stuff!” Can’t wait for it to reach “LFG!”
