It is SUCH a shame that Joan Neuberger’s multimedia essay about the historical and biographical context of Eisenstein’s “Ivan the Terrible” films is really only available for public viewing on the Criterion Collection DVD release because MAN are those hard to find these days.

My absolutely insane take of the day is that Eisenstein’s Fyodor Basmanov has notable connections to Glumov from Eisenstein’s very first film of 1923 more than twenty years prior and that they have a remarkably similar function in terms of their “plasticity” and motives.
