Gardens next to dark forests. An impeccable piece on the humanity and personal purpose of a great tech professional, that might just as well apply to many of us.
Hi, friends. The last 6 years have been a blast, but I just don't like being on The Internet anymore. I'm leaving DevRel, and I wrote a little bit about why. Look after yourselves, and each other. Love, Salma
The #StateOfCSS survey is still out, and despite being off programming, it feels good to still be in the game (if you care about CSS, it shouldn't be hard to be in the top 100% of all respondents, like yours truly). survey.devographics.com/survey/state...

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms). It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.
> We often choose the comfort of importing solutions over the discomfort of understanding problems. I loved this beautifully disarming insight. Read Loren’s excellent manifesto if you care about the Web
This post is the culmination of my thinking about (and building) SPA-like apps w minimal JS for the last 2 yrs The ideas are informed in large part by the @infrequently.org blog posts and talks Thanks @htmx.bsky.social and @astro.build for building great tools. www.lorenstew.art/blog/progres...
Bought a road bike for my son’s 18th birthday. Hit a great deal on a second hand full carbon Giant kept maniacally well. My son is chill and shy, you’d almost mistake it for being grumpy, definitely silent about emotions. I could see sparkles in his eyes. It really made my day.
A path forward (really good read!)
Thank you Sunrise for the chance to go deep on the good internet, escaping algorithmic doom loops, and how we go surfing again. You can find the text, slides and sources here, with video to come. #sunrise25 www.sachajudd.com/the-good-int...
My previous role as CEO (of my own company) was as much technical as business. I have shifted into an exclusive managerial role that I enjoy, but I still crave for code, despite having very little time to devote to it. Finding balance is difficult, when Frontend is well rooted in your heart
Someone higher up the corporate chain might not know what implications blind requests to dev have. Make sure they understand the consequences and act accordingly. Put your ethics and privacy laws first (in EU, the GDPR umbrella most likely provides you with a reason for your questioning)
Devs: draw your line remysharp.com/2025/03/08/d... "Facebook and TikTok had been given access to read what medication I'm on by the development team responsible for the Pharmacy2U web site."
French Senator Claude Malhuret: "Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."
I still get a kick from writing complex regex redirects for Apache on domain/site migrations and then watch a massive curl test validate them all. sweet
It’s been a long day, but in short, bullies ain’t shit! I don’t care what title you hold! This isn’t some long gone reality tv show or failed casino; it is war! How dare a draft dodging dumb dupe humiliate an ally & berate a brave man who has actually been on a battlefield for his people?!
All except the fascist coward of Italy, Giorgia Meloni. Always count on a fascist for cowardice and avoiding to take the right side in history. It’s a defining principle.
European leaders quickly pledged their continued support for Ukraine on Friday after President Trump’s blistering criticism of Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a meeting at the White House.
Fascism always fails. It is destructive and it is awful and not everyone lives to see the other side, but it always, always fails. It takes work. It takes fighting back.[…] And through it all, it feels impossible that we will win. But we will.
In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

You can chronicle them without giving them visibility (and let our eyes rest as an added bonus)
A polite request for media writing about Trump/Musk: stop using photos of them. They're low-information and maddening: we all know what those men look like and we don't want to see them.
This post has +8.5K retorts and +22.5K likes and yet I think it does not get enough attention. This has the power to shut down any academic voice and research. FoS never extended to its economic grants: they found the loophole, effectively silencing those that can demonstrate their wrongness.
🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.
Mountains were beautiful this morning. Covered in snow, blushing in pink and yellow.
When you remove public data, you remove much more than information. You remove accountability.
NEW: USAID source says staff are scrambling to save archived copies of US regulations before they're gone & are being actively locked out of systems, including a publicly available database of USAID documents. WIRED has built software to systematically check the status of 1,374 government domains.
It’s a coup
“With rapidity that has stunned even longtime political observers, forces loyal to Musk’s junta have established him as the all-but undisputed unelected head of government in just a matter of days, unwinding the longtime democracy’s constitutional system” www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...
Trump ordered data from the CDC website be scrubbed. The DataHoarder community at Reddit picked up early warnings from internal sources. Some stellar volunteer has archived all data and is publishing it to the Internet Archive. See www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarde... Not all heroes wear capes
VeryConsciousWater's comment on "Alt-CDC BlueSky account warns of impending data removal and/or loss. Replies note the DataHoarder community anticipated this eventuality."
