A penguin from the stars, allegedly; penguin_starborn in the Twitch chat. (pfp by @kunstgebilde.bsky.social)

There is raw beauty available for anyone with a human brain; but then there is stuff that got wired into your brain as beauty when it was a malleable teenage thing, and might be even stronger. Mine? "Dragonmount", the prologue to the first book of the Wheel of Time, gets me every single time. #WoT

Realistically, I could skeet (is that the word?) in either Finnish or English. I choose English because (a) I use English so much I think I mostly think in it, too, and these skeets are my random thoughts, (b) all the peeps I want to connect with speak English, and (c) numbers.

Writing is a form of thinking: often I don't quite know what I think until I try to write about it. Talking with someone is also a form of thinking, even with someone who is dim, wrongheaded, or an #AI. (Quotation marks on "someone" for the last one.) Even Tarot cards are a form of acting to think!

Johannes Magnus, exiled Catholic archbishop of Protestant Sweden, spent his last years on a credulous, breathless history of Sweden; the Protestant monarchs loved it so they counted their descent from Magog grandson of Noah as Eric XIV and Charles IX. Conspiracy theory: Johannes did this on purpose.

Hngh. AI things are so inflamed neither side is making sense. The advocates are drunk on their own financial incentives (no further analysis needed), and the opponents are so high on hate catastrophizing has turned to unchecked lies because anyone disagreeing is a shill and an enemy of humanity.

Every generation has the same amount of chosen works old and new you have to be aware of to talk their language. Shakespeare, Bible, Star Wars, Halo. No need to play Super Mario Bros 1; but you need to "get" world 1-1, ?-boxes, and bottomless pits "worn smooth by billions of tumbling Mario corpses".
