I think people misunderstand the distinction between enjoying pain, and enjoying being beaten. To be beaten is a dizzying cocktail of panic, humiliation, dread. To have every fawn instinct in your fragile body fire at once, all too late to prevent any harm from being done. All you can do is cower.
