Thought it was about time to overhaul my sona. Never did give them a proper ref, or name for that matter. I feel like I've really ironed out a lot of the issues with the old design and done a lot of changes/additions that I'm really happy with! Can't wait to draw them more~

Decided to try and do some proper studying for once. I wanted to up my game with fur textures a little bit. For a lot of folks a lot of the appeal of furry art is the sensory aspect so I think good texturing can make all the difference. There's also a lot of diversity in fur types! More notes in alt

Texture balls art study with a variety of types of fur. The first is a sort of medium spiky fur, not too far off from what I've been doing. It's pretty versatile. The important part is getting the swoopy shapes of the locks right. Next is a shorter, fuzzy fur. Not too much to say about it, just using a lot of tiny marks to give a sense for the grain of the fur. Third is long, curly fur. I mainly references cocker spaniels for this. Most of the curl shape takes place at the end of the locks since the weight of the fur kind of straightens it out. Probably the most fun to draw. Fourth is kind of a clumpy, cottony fur. Looked at sheep for this one. Just kind of a bunch of cotton balls stuck together basically. I could see this sort of texture being adaptable for bushier winter fur. Fifth is a very frizzy, coily fur. Definitely the hardest for me, it's hard to depict all those intricate details without getting too noisy and complicated to draw. Most important thing is breaking up the outline to let those little coils fall out a bit, definitely makes the mass feel a bit less solid and more fluffy. Finally, this one was an attempt at longer, softer fur. Looked at long haired cats for this one. One thing I noticed especially with this one is how fur will tend to form layers sometimes. I have a habit of just chaotically throwing locks of fur on and it tends to overcrowd a little bit. Particularly for longer fur, it seems like it can be good to give a bit more space between locks along the grain.

Alright, I decided to try my luck on here. Starting to see a lot of other artists in my particular genre hopping over here. I never posted on the hellsite even before the divorced dad era, so this sort of format's a bit new to me. Anyways, here's some Weavile ass
