One other one. The Sox have won 14 of 18 at home and are still only 26-29 at Fenway.

Sox are 15-5 in games started by Sonny Gray, who faces Sean Burke (of St. John's in Shrewsbury) tonight. Career wins for active pitchers 1. Verlander 266 2. Scherzer 222 3. Cole 158 4. Sale 157 5. Gray 138 Scherzer's last win was March 31. Verlander's was last Sept. 27.
Caleb Durbin was hitting .163/.241/.238 through 48 games on May 24, then didn't play for three days. He has hit .308/.373/.537 in 57 games since.
It won't get much notice in a 14-2 rout, but Brayan Bello taking care of three innings sets up the bullpen well for tomorrow. 1 ER over 16.2 IP since returning to the roster.
Red Sox have outscored the White Sox 29-4 in four games this season.
Patrick Sandoval is now lined up to win his first MLB game since May 7, 2024.
Red Sox moves: Added LHP Erik Miller (No. 62) Added C Jake Rogers (No 46) Added OF Eli White (No. 38) Optioned INF Romy Gonzalez to AAA DFA'd RHP Ryan Watson (who was a Rule 5 pick) Adley Rutschman (No 31) is on the 10-day IL.
Seattle signed Rob Refsnyder to a one-year, $6.25 million deal. He hit .140/.211/.254 over 53 games and 129 plate appearances and was released today. Very productive (.276/.364./440) in four seasons for the Red Sox. When he wants one, he'll have a job in somebody's front office.
Aroldis Chapman got two outs on six pitches pitching to Adley Rutschman in the All-Star Game.
Chapman, with Whitlock, Slaten, Guerrero, and now Miller behind him, is a very formidable bullpen for a playoff series. Rutschman's defense is an upgrade, and whatever he hits is a bonus. So run prevention is even better. Or should be. White is solid OF depth and can steal a base.
Seemingly no chance it happens. But Adley Rutschman, I suspect, would have welcomed the idea of working with Jason Varitek.
Sox also received 21-year-old High-A OF Carlos Gutierrez from the Giants for Mayer.
Red Sox are close to moving from Marcelo Mayer and landing lefty reliever Erik Miller, who is having a very strong season for the Giants. The Athletic is on that.

Adley Rutschman, Jake Rogers and cash considerations in exchange for Carlos Narváez, Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon, Enddy Azocar, and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Sox have announced the trade.
Per sources: The Red Sox are getting Rutschman and Jake Rogers as well as cash for Anthony Eyanson, Enddy Azocar, Kyson Witherspoon, and Carlos Narváez.
Red Sox catchers are 25th in the majors in OPS (.615), 29th in RBIs (28), last in home runs (4) and 26th in wRC+ (72).
Adley Rutschman was once the centerpiece of Baltimore’s rebuild and that hasn’t worked out like the Orioles hoped. But he’s still a switch-hitting All-Star catcher. Be a bold pickup for the Sox if they can make it happen.
I think Brayan Bello’s return to form will help alleviate the innings concern for Bennett and Tolle. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/08/01/s...
Brayan Bello earned his demotion. He’s also earned his way back, and might be just what the Red Sox need. - The Boston Globe
Whether it’s as a long reliever or spot starter, Bello could be an important piece for a team leaning on young arms Jake Bennett and Payton Tolle.

Aroldis Chapman is the AL reliever of the month for July. Seventh time he has won that award (AL and NL) in his career.
I’m generally in the “make big moves” camp for a contending team at the deadline. But with this particular Red Sox team I wonder if some improvements around the edges would suffice. They obviously have something special happening and might not want to change the tram chemistry too much.
I think the Sox really like Arias. But I don’t think he is untouchable. Neto will be a test of that.
Really curious what the Red Sox’ internal evaluation of Franklin Arias is. Do they think he’s future superstar? An excellent defender with slightly above-average bat? Or something else? To me, he’s not someone you part with for Zach Neto. But maybe they see him differently than we think?
Eighteen hours before MLB’s trade deadline, the sweatpants-clad Red Sox departed Dodger Stadium for another overnight transcontinental flight, back to Boston and into one of the biggest days of their year. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/08/02/s...
