Personal highlights: Greece, Bulgaria, UK, Moldova, Sweden, Norway. Our #Eurovision party consensus: UK and Croatia were joint first. Albania, Greece and Moldova were joint third.
Austria at #eurovision. Bringing the foodscape to land with pretzels. Good song vibes, and a good performance. Think this will rank highly.
Romania at #eurovision. Ciorbo de legume. A rather sour lemony soup. Not winning points here. Moore sci-fi vibes here with the song, but staged better. Rock seems to be making a comeback towards the end of the evening. Song is strong, but we struggle with the lyrical content.
Norway at #eurovision. Raspeballer - potato dumplings. Made with raw _and_ mashed potato. Right from the beginning a very strong song. Outfitted as a glamorous sanitation worker is a curious choice.
Italy at #eurovision. Ameretti biscotti and Prosecco. Strong food game. But this is a song that your holiday rep sings of an evening in the club bar.
Cyprus at #eurovision. Haloumi and Ouzo. Can't go wrong with at least one of those. Euro vibes in the song. Nice use of a table in the performance, but I feel UK did tables better.
Sweden at #eurovision. Berry cider. Song is significantly better than the alcopop. Strong light game, banging music. Sweden is definitely Swedening.
Poland at #eurovision. Polish cheese and sausage with mint and cherry cordials followed by hazelnut chocolate. Bouncy busters are fun. Not enough musical nonsense.
Finland at #eurovision. Pinaattikeito (spinach cream soup). Surprisingly nice soup. Surprisingly nice shoes on the violinist. I feel like Finland has had stronger entries.
Moldova at #eurovision. Moldovan potato salad. A quite strong effort. Feels like we're going back to Lazy Town with this song. Go Sporticus!
France at #eurovision. Brie accompanied by wine. Food is a typically effort strong from our chums. Dramatic song, well sung. Not sure it stands much of a chance against the competition.
UK at #eurovision. Yorkshire Pudding and strawberries with Real Ale and Somerset Cider. COME ON SAM!!! Killing it.
Croata at #eurovision. Bean stew with spicy sausage. Glad we had subtitles on to follow what's going on here. Lord of the Rings meets Handmaids Tale.
Bulgaria at #eurovision. Banitsa (apparently a breakfast foodstuff). Weird zombie vibes here. But the song is good Eurovision vibes. Was waiting for them to ditch the small set.
Czechia at #eurovision. More beer. Tech camera error gets him some pity points, but this song isn't doing much for us.
Malta at #eurovision. Qassatat Tal-Couscous U Cicri. Not entirely sure what that island but it tastes nice. This song is a nice change of pace and feels like, with more dramatic orchestration, would make a passable James Bond theme song.
Serbia at #eurovision. Sauerkraut followed by Baklava. Seems to be a comic book version of The Darkness. I love the swagger, but the song isn't doing much for us.
Australia at #eurovision. Freddos. Not sure what the fuss is about this song - bit of a whiney Celine Dion concotion. Key change grants it point extra point.
Ukraine at #eurovision. Chicken Kiev and borscht. The song was about as much work as getting through the food.
Greece at #eurovision. Lamb kebabs with olives. Strong food play. This is the kind of Eurovision nonsense we came for. Its a 100%terrible song, but everything about this is peak Eurovision, so scores highly.
Albania at #eurovision. Ravani (a lemon cake). Strong! Song is a very earnest Bohemian Rhapsody meets horror film.
For #3 at #eurovision, we have a celebration of the boycotting nations, featuring Dutch Edam and Spanish Anchovies with Palestinian Dates.
Germany at #eurovision. Pills with a Haribo chaser. We needed a drink to steel us for what's to come. But this performance all feels a bit gentleman's club. (Also... she's lying. she's clearly not on fire!)
Denmark at #eurovision. Bacon and Danish Blue. A strong start. Visually a distopean disco. Song is good, but more musical theatre than Eurovision.
We're getting ready for #eurovision right now... having another of our Eurovision dinner parties with a course "from" every country in the final. Anpying updates to come for each round.
Small Prophets is a simply glorious TV programme, and massively recommended. Mackenzie Crook's writing on this is awesome. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_P...

Given all the hateful nonsense and nuanced complexity in the world right now, watching Bill Bailey play The Typewriter at the proms was a valuable moment of joy.
