The person we told about the shallots cares about the customer. This is not a mom and pop store. This is a chain supermarket. This says good things about the management at this store. Why were the shallots so bad in the first place? What sudden, surprising improvement has come into your life?

She's right, in a way. The manga is a slow, slice-of-life portrait of a middle-aged writer who buys a boat and takes up fishing. It reminds me of my own work in some ways. What are you reading?

It sounded like the left front wheel bearing to me. The mechanic stethoscoped it and determined our intermediate shaft was bad, so we replaced that. The noise was still there! I took it back. Guess what? —The left front wheel bearing was bad, too. Vindication! What pyrrhic victory haunts you today?

These are the hazards of operating a motor vehicle. It makes us all into murderers of bugs—and if we're unlucky, other animals. What's today's accidental crime?
