IN APRIL, captives at Moshannon Valley Processing Center attempted their own hunger strike.
They demanded BASIC RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS. But their REASONABLE call for help have gone UNANSWERED.
TWO WEEKS AGO, Delaney Hall’s population launched their own HUNGER AND LABOR STRIKE to protest similar conditions.
But this time, THE PEOPLE ARE RESPONDING.

Pittsburgh DSA stands in Solidarity with Cuba. (1/2)

PITTSBURGH DSA STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA
Pittsburgh DSA unequivocally condemns the Trump Administration’s recent actions toward Cuba, including the tightening of economic restrictions, the total oil blockade, the threat of military intervention, and the indictment of former Cuban President Raúl Castro. These actions are part of a much longer history of U.S. policy toward Cuba that spans decades and administrations of both parties.

Since the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the United States has maintained an extensive economic blockade against Cuba aimed at isolating the country economically and politically.

These policies have severely limited Cuba’s access to critical goods, trade opportunities, and international resources, contributing to significant hardship for ordinary Cuban people.

We believe the Cuban people have the right to sovereignty and self-determination without outside coercion or threats of military force. Escalating tensions through sanctions, aggressive rhetoric, or intervention only increases instability and harms civilians.

The recent indictment of Raúl Castro represents another escalation in a broader strategy of pressure against the Cuban government. Regardless of political differences, we oppose policies that increase the likelihood of conflict and further isolate the Cuban people.

At a time when public discourse around Cuba is increasingly polarized, we believe it is important to promote dialogue, education, diplomacy, and people-to-people solidarity rather than confrontation.

Pittsburgh DSA remains committed to opposing U.S. aggression toward Cuba and to supporting efforts that foster understanding and solidarity between communities, including our work alongside the Pittsburgh-Matanzas Sister Cities Partnership.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, Pittsburgh DSA is pleased to announce our new HEARTY Campaign, standing up for Trans Youth and access to health care in our community. Here's some info on the campaign and how to get involved:

Pittsburgh DSA Help Ensure Access and Rights for Trans Youth (HEARTY) Campaign

What is HEARTY?
At our most recent General Meeting, Pittsburgh DSA amended the existing Trans Youth Priority into the Help Ensure Access and Rights for Trans Youth Campaign (HEARTY)!
The HEARTY Campaign intends to apply pressure on UPMC to restore Trans Youth Gender Affirming Care, as well as develop an alternative care model based on Public Clinics.
The campaign also intends to help educate DSA members, as well as the broader community, to understand what gender affirming care is, how to access it, and how we can defend it together.

Goals of the Campaign
Pressure UPMC to restore care to trans youth.
Pressure other institutions to divest from UPMC.
Canvass in support of public clinics for trans youth.
Educate DSA members on gender affirming care and related topics.
Host a public facing trans-focused organizing fair.
Aid local organizations supporting trans youth in the form of a volunteer labor brigade and/or fundraising.

How to Help
Come to HEARTY Steering Meetings
Bring your expertise to aid in the campaign such as:
Designing Graphics
Speaking at County/City Council Meetings
Writing Op-eds or articles
Plan socials
Canvass
Provide Mutual Aid
Be involved in the logistics of running the campaign
And much more!

One of the tactical blunders I think with Pittsburgh DSA in the near 10 years of organizing in it is we as a chapter never really fostered formations of YDSA chapters. Taking a hands off approach and ceding the campuses to anarchists, progressives, and trots.

Allegheny County Council just passed Ordinance 13809-26 banning county agencies and employees from cooperating with ICE. Pittsburgh DSA turned out our members to tonight's meeting to send one message: Allegheny County stands in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors. We will abolish ICE!

At tonight's meeting, Allegheny County Council passed Ordinance 13809-26, unamended, with a vote of 11-3 and one abstention. The ordinance bans county agencies and employees from cooperating with ICE.

Pittsburgh DSA's Statement: End the US War against Venezuela and Release Nicolas Maduro

In the early morning of January 3, 2025, the United States invaded Venezuela and kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. This is the latest in a series of murderous, lawless actions taken by the Trump administration in violation of Venezuelan sovereignty.

The United States government has made plain it intends to seize Venezuela’s oil and install an imperial-puppet regime dominated by American corporate interests. This is simply the latest effort in the United States’ decades long neo-colonialist imperialist war on the nation and it’s people in order to rob it of the world’s largest oil reserves.

Pittsburgh DSA stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people. We condemn these outrageous actions and call for the immediate release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores and a complete cessation of hostilities towards Venezuela, including an end to the military blockade, sanctions, and horrific strikes on Venezuelan people.
