Once again we wake up to the news of horrible atrocities by Russia through its aerial attacks on Ukraine. Russia must pay for the destruction it has caused. And we are using the proceeds from the immobilised Russian assets to make sure it does.

And along the way you might learn a lot about France that has probably puzzled you for years. You don't have to like De Gaulle. But if you want to understand why certain instincts run deeper than any one government or era, these two films are essential viewing.
Let me be upfront: De Gaulle is not an easy figure to appreciate from the outside. Arrogant, conceited, stubbornly principled to a fault: I get why he's been polarising across Europe and the world. I totally respect anyone's right to roll their eyes at him.
So I just saw both films in the new "De Gaulle" saga ("Résistance" and "Liberté") and I really think my fellow non-French Europeans should see them too. Because this is some genuine European history.

Il faut aller voir « La Bataille De Gaulle », film en deux volets d’Antonin Baudry. Le livre de Julian Jackson qui les a inspirés était déjà la meilleure biographie du personnage. Le résultat cinématographique est à sa hauteur. Un peu d’air frais en ce temps de basse politique. D’idéal et de morale.
