Arthur Tress’ Superman Fantasy, New York, 1977. I love Arthur Tress’ work. If we’re going to celebrate the heroic male body, why not all of it?

Couldn’t help humming “Do Your Ears Hang Low” when I saw this figure. 🤣 “Can you throw 'em over your shoulder like a continental soldier?” This limestone figure depicts a crouching nude man holding an oversized phallus draped over his shoulder. Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, 1st century BCE #fcf

Word of the day: ithyphallic An adjective describing a figure, image, or representation depicted with an erect penis. The term comes from the Greek: •ithys = straight or upright •phallos = penis Bronze Stand with ithyphallic satyrs. Pompeii, 1st century CE. #fcf

I just love Davis Schneider and the fact that he seems completely unbothered by looking a little ridiculous. The giant mustache, the shirtless interviews, the playful bromance. There’s something refreshing about masculinity that isn’t constantly trying to look invincible.

Rising from the ground like part of the landscape, this Bronze Age phallic standing stone was discovered near Gothenburg Sweden in 2019. Found at the center of a circular stone monument with soot, burned animal bones, and a hammerstone. It may have played a role in ritual or fertility ceremonies.

At what point does anatomy become landscape? Or architecture? So much to explore. 🧭 Artist and origin unknown. If anyone recognizes the work or knows more, please share in the comments.

One of the strangest Roman phallic artifacts I’ve come across. This bronze tintinnabulum (protective wind chime) depicts a gladiator battling a snarling beast that is also his own phallus. Its meaning is lost to time. Found at Herculaneum, late 1st century BCE–1st century CE.

Continuing today’s “little dog” theme. 🤣 This phallic komainu (guardian lion-dog) once greeted visitors to the Hokkaido Hihokan, an erotic museum in Jōzankei Onsen, Hokkaido, Japan.
