Not overly bothered about that. Bad performance but this still a mix-and-match Arsenal side, getting fit, against Betis who were playing their sixth(!) pre-season game. Some poor mistakes and it would help if our goalkeeper could punch and/or kick the ball, but there we go.

Fair play to Arsenal. A few days late (and absolutely the right thing to do), but they're offering full refunds for everyone who bought the pre-season passes. Technical issues meant people couldn't watch against Girona and they won't be able to stream the game against Betis either.

I understood (but never really agreed with) the clamour for a deep-lying six that makes 100 passes per game. There's three elite ones in world football and they play for PSG, Bayern and Man City. Arsenal were always going to sign a 6/8 this summer and Bruno Guimarães is one of the best around.

🚨 Arsenal nearing total agreement with Newcastle United to sign Bruno Guimaraes. Desire among all parties to bring situation to close + deal now on course for completion; 28yo awaiting #NUFC permission to undergo medical & seal #AFC switch 🚨 @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/743...

Arsenal nearing agreement for Bruno Guimaraes transfer from Newcastle

The Brazil international has informed Newcastle of his desire to leave the club and join Arsenal.

Little deflection (Havertz might claim it) but that's a Christos Tzolis goal if I've ever seen one. No fuss, nothing fancy, just cutting inside and banging a shot towards goal. Good to see him looking sharp.

Uncle Norginho, you were special. Everton a great move and hopefully he can play some more football than last season. Professional until the end.

🚨 EXCL: Everton reach agreement in principle with Arsenal to sign Christian Norgaard. Still needs formalising but 32yo midfielder set to join #EFC from #AFC for in region of £7m. Expected to undergo medical next week ahead of proposed move 🚨 @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/748...

I don’t want to get ahead of myself but the wording around this article (and the first bomba) feel really encouraging. This stupid sport has me on strings but I am so ready to get hurt.

🚨 Vinicius Junior future entering crucial stage - meetings in coming days over extension at Real Madrid, free exit 2027 or join Arsenal now. #AFC all in & 26yo winger attracted by opportunity if no #RMFC renewal 🚨 W/ @gunnerblog.bsky.social @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/748...

This has been in the post for months. It was clearly the end of the project/cycle, big players leaving, others checked out, transfer business was messy, no Europe - I’m just amazed it didn’t happen sooner. Wonder what this means for Bruno G (if anything).

🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Eddie Howe set to leave Newcastle United. All parties initially chose to continue but 48yo has informed #NUFC of decision to take break & will depart after 5yrs in charge. Matthias Jaissle of Al Ahli lined up as replacement 🚨 @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/747...

Obviously a very difficult (and expensive) deal to do, but Arsenal even being in the conversation for Vini Jr is really positive. He is basically *the* ceiling raiser for left-wing and you can see how a deal could happen with his contract situation, Diomande coming in, etc. Let's see what happens.
