The left missed the threat posed by Trump in early 2016 because it was focused on attacking liberalism. After the election it spent a lot of time normalizing Trump (“just a usual Republican”) or arguing that at least he wasn’t Bush. It was contemptuous of “wine moms” and their “hashtag resistance.”
They’re obviously too weak to matter these days and the overwhelming threat is the far right, but the online cool kid left is still awful and should not be resuscitated. Partly culpable for the current crisis. The way forward is a recommitment to a genuine fighting liberalism

I think my problem with blue sky, as I try it yet again, is that the people who have jumped ship are basically ALL politics people. I need my random video game or niche hobby people to show up over here before it can really emulate what was lost from twitter.

The thing is that this is a take that WAS true in the 80's and 90's when cheap plastic replaced metal and glass in a large amount of consumer goods. However now that has already been the case for decades we have had nothing but constant improvement since then. People's priors have not updated.
