If you vote by mail: 1. Put a stamp on the envelope. The forces USPS to handle it like 1st class mail. 2. Drop it at the post office, go to the window and ask for a postmark. 3. Alternatively, you can use you precinct drop boxes, which are controlled by the elections folks. Not USPS. And #FDT

7/ Best rule: DON’T WAIT. USPS recommends mailing your completed ballot at least one week before it must reach your election office. If you’re cutting it close and must use USPS, go inside and ask for the manual postmark. Then tell someone else. This is the kind of detail that can save a vote.
6/ And don’t assume every state uses the same deadline. Some require ballots to ARRIVE by a deadline. Others allow later arrival if the ballot carries a qualifying postmark. Check your state’s rules before voting. about.usps.com/postal-bulle...

5/ One important distinction: I am talking about USPS collection boxes, the familiar blue mailboxes. An official BALLOT DROP BOX operated by your election officials is different. Follow your state or local election office’s instructions for those.

3/ Think about what that means near Election Day. You put your ballot in a USPS collection box believing you mailed it on time. It reaches the processing facility later. THAT date may become the postmark on your ballot.
