First light with the miniCAM8M (IMX585 sensor), paired with the FMA180 Pro (f/4.5) for a compact mono imaging setup. Used a small cheap spectrometer to compare (just for fun) the included filters (XiMei) to a set of ZWO narrowbands. To me they look to be slightly better? #astronomy #astrophotography

Tonight's AP image is that of our nearest galactic neighbor, Andromeda. When processing this I worked to preserve the delicate outer halo of M31. The quality of this data allowed me to preserve the detail and show it off to you in all its majesty. #astrophotography data.bortle.org/datasets/vie...

This is a high-resolution, image of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) captured in Hydrogen-alpha (H-alpha), red, green, and blue (HALRGB) light. It showcases the galaxy's prominent spiral structure, with its bright central core, dust lanes, and star-forming regions illuminated in reddish hues due to H-alpha emissions. The surrounding areas exhibit a mix of bluish and golden tones from stellar populations and gas clouds. The image uses filters with a similar bandpass to Hubble Space Telescope's narrowband filters to map sulfur (SII) to red, hydrogen-alpha (Ha) to green, and oxygen (OIII) to blue, creating vibrant and intricate colors. The image showcases bright blue-green regions, where ionized oxygen dominates, transitioning into yellow and red hues where sulfur and hydrogen emissions are more prevalent. IC1805, the Heart Nebula in SHO palette. A blue oxygen core is surrounded by orange, red, and green hues of sulfur and hydrogen.

Core of the heart. Known as the open cluster Melotte 15, it contains filaments of red sulfur surrounded by a field of blue oxygen.

A corner crop of the nearby Soul Nebula (IC1848). Oxygen, sulfur, and hydrogen mix to create a gradient of blues, purples, greens, and reds.

A very close crop of WeBo 1 planetary nebula. A blue oxygen disk surrounds a bright central star in a field of green hydrogen.
