PSA for cis folks out there: they/them is fine if you DO NOT know the subjects preferred pronouns. if you do know them, refuse to use them and instead opt for they/them then you are misgendering the subject, which is a transphobic microagression just use preferred pronouns when known. it's simple

I have spoken with multiple actual trans people about this IRL. THEY all agree empathically, "they/them" is universal. It's a failsafe that applies to everyone.
