A late diagnosed Autistic trying to learn to accommodate for herself. 💟 https://open.substack.com/pub/piecesoflou

I just met this woman who saw my lanyard and asked “I know an autistic child, and I was just wondering if it ever gets easier?” There’s a lot of info about kids, but not much for adults. I said it’s hard, but I learn my limits and put supports in place and I hope one day, I can say I’m thriving.

Reskeet with four random facts about you: 🦦 I call Disney World my safe place as my anxiety is more manageable there 🦦 I have a Masters Degree in Creative Writing 🦦 I was only diagnosed with autism at 30 years old 🦦 I love otters and I have a folder where I compile articles I find about them

Happy World Otter Day from Bertie and I! Here’s an otter fact: Unlike most other marine mammals, sea otters lack blubber. To keep warm, they will spend a large portion of their days grooming their fur to trap in air next to their skin. 🦦 Take care of yourself like a sea otter would today!

Today’s small wins: 🦦 I managed to chat to my Mom 🦦 I spoke my order at Costa 🦦 I picked a good book to read 🦦 The sun is shining and it feels nice wearing shorts 🦦 I said “no” when people pushed me too far Today is a better day.

Today, I did a brave thing and used my AAC Device when speaking to strangers for the first time and I’m so shaky because I never thought I’d feel comfortable enough to do so. Luckily they were very encouraging and helped me by repeating my words for me if it wasn’t loud enough but I’m so shaky.
