Two years ago I was honoured to be invited to the 80th anniversary commemorations of the massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane. I spoke live on France 2 as a result of my book about the people of the village being published in French, another real honour.

It was really interesting to talk to Diane de Vignemont about the parallels between events in Minneapolis and what happened in occupied France. This is a fascinating read.

In Minneapolis, the sounds of ICE Watch whistles echo the church bells that guided Resistance in occupied France. In my latest for @newlinesmag.bsky.social, I spoke to Minnesotans & WWII historians to explore the lessons of such parallels for the Minneapolis uprising newlinesmag.com/essays/minne...

"An invaluable contribution to the literature [...] a readable, humane requiem, not just for Oradour, but for a whole way of French village life [...] Where he excels is in conveying a sense of it as beyond any normal human imagination or understanding."A Knapp @HFranceWebsite

Just did a lovely little talk at a Probus club. There’s something about a village hall in the countryside which makes me feel calm. I’m always happy to talk about my work, no matter what size the group!

So USA, is this what you want? Or does anyone stand up and call out Trump for realigning your country with Russia against the democratic world? Where are those checks and balances?

Solidarity to my amazing colleagues at Cardiff University School of Modern Languages and Translation. Equally to the other schools affected. This should be called out for what it is. Vandalism.
