A view across the cricket pitch on beautiful Royal Tunbridge Wells Common. The Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall commons in the UK are currently up for sale. A campaign encouraging locals to pledge sums towards the cost of buying the commons - to protect them from future development - is underway.

Pip, the golden retriever is sitting in the centre of the photograph facing towards you. It’s a bright sunny day and his fur is shining; it’s dark gold on his back shoulders and the sides of his head, but lighter on his legs, chest and face. He is sitting on the platform of a railway station, with a golden–yellow coloured wooden picket fence at the end of the platform behind him. On the opposite side of the rail line in the distance is a hill with a beautiful semi-ruined Medieval castle at the top. The walls appear light grey in the sunlight and are likely to have been built using Purbeck stone. This is Corfe Castle, which was built after the 1066 Norman conquest of England and deliberately destroyed after the English Civil War. The rail line is the Heritage Swanage Railway, which runs a steam hauled service between nearby Norden and the Seaside town of Swanage. Pip has a smile on his face with his tongue hanging out and a friendly expression on his face.

He is facing towards you and once again has a happy smile on his face a train is pulling into the opposite platform. This is being hold by a large Bullied pacific locomotive 4-6-2 steam locomotive. This is painted in the dark green southern livery of British Railways with a black front to the boiler and a red buffer beam. It is holding a rake of coaches in the same livery. The sky in this picture is more cloudy than in the first picture.

Greetings from Happy Valley! Pip with his Dad four years ago today on one of our favourite walks. #ThrowbackThursday (24 July 2021) ⏳

Three years ago today, it was announced that Pip would host The ‘Golden’ Hour on West Kent Radio! 📻 It was, of course, April Fools Day - but Pip did enjoy his proverbial 15 minutes of fame in the local media! 🎙️

☀️🐶📸 I like your stile! #ThrowbackThursday (pic: 2022) ⏳ Pip contemplates jumping through a style or stile that’s known as a ‘squeeze stile’ on one of his favourite walks in East Sussex.

Pip the Golden Retriever is facing towards you looking between two upright wooden posts in a fence. Each slips outwards from a narrow gap at the bottom with a wooden step. Pip, who is in bright sunlight, is looking at you with big brown eyes and has a smile on his face with his tongue hanging out. The stile is slightly shaded, but Pip is in bright sunshine which is making his fur shine. The fur on his face was greying with age when the photo was taken almost two years ago, giving him a dignified - but handsome - slightly elderly look. Pip and the stile are in sharp focus, while a grassy hill behind him is in soft focus.

This type of ‘squeeze’ stile is a simple and effective, and lasts for many years against the elements. The narrow gap is thinner at the base and broadens towards the top, so most people can navigate these easily but they remain impassible to cows, sheep and other types of livestock.

Café Society. ☕️ Pip loved his visits to the dog-friendly Pup Cup coffee shop in Tonbridge High Street. 🐶 #ThrowbackThursday (pic: 2024) ⏳

The owner of @the_pup_cup1 and her team are passionate about dogs and their coffee shop, which serves cakes, snacks and delicious creamy doggy treats called Pup Cups. Dogs and their people hang out at the cafe, chatting with each other to pass the time. It’s ideally placed for coffee and cake after a walk along the Medway or at the old Tonbridge Racecourse Park.

The Golden Age of Steam. 🐶 #ThrowbackThursday (pic: 2021) 🐕⏳🐾

Its gleaming green bodywork is shining in the sun, and it has a red buffer beam at the front.

This picture was taken at the Spa Valley Railway’s terminal at Tunbridge Wells West station.

The locomotive is a 4-6-2 Battle of Britain class Pacific designed by the Southern Railway’s chief engineer Oliver Bullied. It has had the original streamlined casing that was typical or these locomotives removed.

When the photo was taken, the loco was named Sir Keith Park after the World War Two RAF 11 Group leader during the Battle of Britain. It was temporary named 303 Squadron last year to commemorate the role that Polish pilots of this squadron played in the battle.
