after their canadian leg, he’s quite pleased to know that there are only 13 shows left. 13 more nights where he’ll leave it all out there on the stage. 13 more dates of ignoring bad press. he’ll be counting them down until he can retreat into his garden once more.
having the classic pisces dilemma of being incapable of following my own advice…
another article about pattie and eric. though there is no new information, they continue to spin the story. every time he opens the paper it’s some variation of their ‘love triangle’ or some scalding review of the ‘dark hoarse’ tour. he just can’t understand it. don’t these people have anything—
schedule some time with him, now! fifty pounds n hour.
talents George Harrison has that you might not know about: 1. photography. 2. getting rid of boredom.
gettin’ rather tired of this bobbing back and forth, to and fro.
he snickers at this, shaking his head as they turn down a street which will lead them back up to the venue.
‘huh. maybe i need to change my religion. or… find one.’
‘the bhagavad gita covers it, y’know. lots of representation for clumsier folk.’
‘correct. not many people know that was Moses’ favourite, he was a clumsy guy too. shame they left it out of the Bible.’
with a coy grin, he taps his nostril with his index finger. he then lifts his cigarette to his lips for a drag.
‘what did you get up to, then?’ pulling his hands away from his eyes, he sits up straighter to stop himself from falling asleep while george talks — ( resisting the temptation to yawn. )
‘s’right. was one of the thirteen commandments.’
‘thou shalt not laugh at thy unfortunately clumsy friends.’
he watches as eric takes a seat, the lit end of his cigarette smoldering away between his clasped fingers. ‘much of th’same. did meself a great disservice earlier by having been a bit naughty.’
‘yep. first night on the bus, not altogether peaceful.’ he slides himself into a seat nearby, rubbing tiredly at his eyes. ‘what’s keeping you up?’
‘you’ve got me word. i shall not laugh!’
‘we’ll see! i’m bound to fall over in front of you at some point.’
he looks up with a weary smile. ‘same boat, i assume?’
can’t sleep?
sitting in the dining area of the tour bus, smoking a cigarette. up far too late.
‘ye might not believe me… but so am i.’ he says through chuckles.
his cheeks have turned a slight shade of red in the process of amusing him — and he returns to walking normally, laughing softly at himself. ‘last time i tried that, i fell on my face. so glad it didn’t happen this time.’
he begins to snicker at eric does his bit, smoking his cigarette down to the quick. he tosses the butt to the ground, stepping on it to put it out. ‘very nice! verrrrrrry nice.’
‘sometimes i wish i wasn’t completely unable to say no to you.’ he sighs, and begins to stride along with his ankles bent at awkward angles — occasionally skipping or raising his legs up almost to the level of his head ( trying to imitate john as best he can. )
his smile warms and he claps eric gently on the back, clutching the back of his neck and giving his friend a little sway. ‘ta, el. i’ll keep that in mind.’
‘i get that. offer’s always open, though.’ a casual smile, then after a couple more drags, he flicks ashes to the ground and puts out the cigarette — throwing it away and shoving his hands into his pockets as they continue to stroll along.
he nods as they amble onward, taking the comfortable pace of an easy stroll. ‘… i appreciate it. m’very grateful t’have such a good friend as yerself. i think i’ve always felt better workin’ it out in me head before i bothered anyone else.’
his brow furrows with concern, dragging on his own cigarette as he considers those words. ‘you know you can always come to me if you’re struggling with anything, right? the door’s always open, my shoulder’s always available to cry on.’ for once, he’s not going to make any jokes.
a soft sigh. he takes a long drag, blowing it out slowly. ‘dunno. it’s been a hard couple of years. some days, i dunno if i’ve got it in me. ‘course, that’s just ego. but it is hard sometimes. t’reckon with it, y’know. really put it behind ye.’
‘meant to ask where we were going next. i’ll have to get some winter clothes.’ looking over at george, he followed his gaze out into the distance — he felt a kind of fondness for it; he’d needed a change of scenery. ‘penny for your thoughts? you look miles away.’
