I work on and write about design systems. Purveyor of fine typos.

This feedback related to the design system doc spec has been lingering in my mind. I agree. It can be much better—but I think it'll need a start-from-scratch effort. But no better time than now.

I don’t know how I can more diplomatically say that Figma’s autolayout is a mess without watering down the sentiment.

The initial DSDS site is not something I'm proud of. It's not well written, overly complicated, and just a big ball of meh. I'm working to fix that with a full copywriting pass and improved docs site. Hoping to have something public by next week.

Design system spacing tokens and guidelines have typically been one of those, “we tried our best” topics. But I think I may stumbled on a model that could actually produce something useful. Excited to give it a go.

Lucky number 0.14.0 released for designsystemdocspec.org This release rolls in a bunch of breaking changes into one rip-off-the-bandaid version. I also wanted to call out my thanks to Afyia Smith (afyiasmith.co) and Suleiman Ali Shakir (iamsuleiman.com) for their contributions!

Design System Documentation Spec 0.14.0

A machine-readable format for design system documentation. DSDS structures components, tokens, themes, foundations, patterns, and guides as a single source of truth for humans, parsers, and agents.

The whole situation with Egypt in the World Cup shows how corruption hollows out an institution. It doesn’t matter whether wrongdoing occurred. The fact is anyone with a brain would at least doubt the legitimacy of the results after the bullshit with the US red card.

I see no obvious benefit to society for children’s games to have in-app purchases, loot boxes, or micro transactions.

A person saying they understand Design Systems because they know React is like someone saying that they understand cars because they know about gas.
