Born on this day in 1906: Joan Hickson, the definitive screen Miss Marple. Personal top 3; 1) Nemesis 2) A Murder is Announced 3) 4.50 from Paddington (as I said last week, Christie's best train mystery)

First saw #IClaudius on UK Gold about 30 years ago, then dvd & now rewatching on the iPlayer again. Three Saturday observations: 1) Brian Blessed's best performance - from shouty to subtle, jovial to threatening 2) Sian Philips gives one of the best TV performance, ever 3) so many Dr Who actors

It's all a bit stagey - both the sets and some of the performances - and the prosthetics is ropey and it's very mid 70s, but it grips like a vice. No, not Doctor Who, I mean I Claudius. For the umpteenth time #iclaudius

The Mutants - despite the madness of having a black actor playing a character working for the racist administration (but learning the error of his ways) - is a better anti-racist text than anything until S25. It's like casting Max Adrian as a concentration camp guard. But it's not Facebook of Evil

Meta's pervert glasses are not a glitch. Facebook began life as a way for Zuckerberg to rate women. Non-consensual objectification was always at the heart of the project. The glasses are just another stage (see also photos of teenagers on Instagram being used to attract middle-aged men to Threads)

Up Mayo!!! I never thought I'd see it. And never thought my nearly 87 year old father would see it again. But he did, despite the dementia and the care home. Unbelievable.

I was today years old when I spotted John Williams riffing on the opening of Das Rhinegold in part of the music for Superman (The children are watching Christopher Reeves' first two Superman films for the 1st time. But not 3 or 4, because Vera's transformation is too traumatic (for me) & 4 is shit)

Interesting watching David Frost interviewing Oswald Mosley in 1967. Mosley claiming he was a defender of free speech and denying he made a 'Hitler salute', rather claiming it was an ancient Roman salute, the salute of Western Europe. All very familiar from our own current political bonfire.

While I'm being ripped off at Leonardslee' giant inflatable event, here's Dr Who S22 in order of greatness: 1) Mark of the Rani 2) Vengeance on Varos 3) Attack of the Cybermen 4) Revelation of the Daleks 5) Timelash 6) Two Doctors Revelation is a great script, but not for the Doctor. #doctorwho

Isn't it time for Al Carns to piss off back to the Tories or take the low road to Reform. 'But he was in the army!!!!' cries various right-wing commentators while stroking themselves furtively under the desk lest the Al worship seem homoerotic. Al Carns - you'd be better with Ali Bongo.
